Have there been an articles in ME on constructing a 3 Drum Yarrow Boiler?

If so, what were the issue number or numbers please?  I presume back copies will still be available.  And also if so, where the articles in detail or just ‘superficial’?

If not in ME, does anyone know where else such an article may have been published for the model engineer?

I am a subscriber to MEW not ME, hence  the queries.

      Regards,

              Hi Niloch and Xtoph,

Rushed off to the newsagents and bought their last copy of ME, only to find it was issue 4367 with no article!  Nevermind, will get 4368 when it becomes available and see about a copy of 4366, plus of course the issues of Xtoph will remain on file!

              Thanks chaps,
              Chris

                  Hi ChrisH,
I would imagine that the Yarrow Boiler (see pics) that I put together some years back, is a little bit bigger than the one that you have in mind.  The customer, (a retired sea captain) was putting it in a flat bottomed Punt, together with a ‘Stuart Swan’ engine.  The steam drum is 5″ dia. – water drums 3 1/2″ dia. and it has- 144 x 7/16″ tubes + 2 down -comers of  1/2″ dia.  Owing to space, Fuller details plus hints& tips can be supplied if needed.  There are no drawings (to my knowledge) as it was a one off job.

                  Best of luck

                  Regards
                  Alf.

                    Hi Alf,
You are right of course, but in one way not right!  Yes, the Yarrow Boiler I have in mind for now is a bit smaller than the one you built, but the ultimate goal is to build one about that big for exactly the same purpose but probably not with a Stuart Swan as they are not now available, I think.

I would be delighted to receive fuller details plus hints and tips – perhaps you could be so kind as to e-mail me rather than take up space here.  The lack of drawings are not a problem as I can attend to that – I have an ancient copy of AutoCad LT and enjoy using it!  Your photos are really super – the boiler looks really superb during its construction and the photos have already conveyed quite a bit of information including the temporary structs to hold the water and steam drums apart during the tube fitting process!

Look forward to hearing from you in due course,

                    Kind regards,
                    Chris
