        Hi,

Im trying to find some help with my X3 mill.  The spindle speed jumped to max while cutting some parts, and can’t be adjusted anymore.  The pot that controls the speed, seems to be functioning fine, but no longer changes the spindle rpm.

The fault light comes on when the spindle is turned on, and runs at max speed.

        Any ideas what went wrong?

        Thanks in advance

            Hi, Ben,

When this happened to me, I traced it to the output MOSFETS in the controller board. (but be careful, there are at least three types of controller board I have seen).

The MOSFETS (on my board) were type 2SK790. These might not be easy to find nowadays. There is also a small driver transistor (physically it was mounted immediately next to the output MOSFETS  – type was BC549C – easy to find.

Hope this might help a bit.

              Hi Ben,
I think the most likely cause of the fault is one or both of the SCR’s (Thyristors) on the controller board. Having said that you need to verify that this is the case before replacing them and also that no other components have failed. I have put the schematic of the controller board in the file section the  X_series_ mills  forum.
Unless you are familiar  with working on this sort of equipment where there is no point which can be considered as ground do not try to sort it out yourself.
              Les.

Les Jones : I registered on Yahoo and downloaded the files for the X3 ,  today i ordered one “XJ12-300” from Amadeal ( it should be the same as Warco minimill ) and was told it contains one american made controller board made by http://www.kbelectronics.com/ , You dont happen to know anything about it ? Or where to find any information about the controller ?

                  Hi MarcuSweden,
I do not know anything about the XJ12-300 mill. I traced the circuit of the controller in my X3 mill when the motor failed blowing the mains fuse. I expected that the controller board would have been damage. (It had survived without damage.) I seem to remember discussion about people fitting  kbelectronics controllers to replace failed Chinese controllers. this was probably on the” X_Series_Mills” or the  “GrizHFMinimill” forum. There is a site that has pictures of  some of the speed controllers fitted to Chinese mills and lathes. This is their URL HERE  I also found a very poor quality copy of the manual for one of kbelectronics controllers  HERE
                  Les.

Les Jones : Thankyou , i have been looking on thoose forums but didnt find anything covering the minimill/XJ12-300. I will wait till my mill arrives and then try to identify the controller or contact the manufacturer recomended by Amadeal.
