My wife wanted to know if there was anything that she could get for a stocking filler for Christmas, so I was thinking maybe a book or books depending on the price of them.

I thought of some of the Workshop series of books are they worth getting

Plus one for SOD's endorsement; but some are classics and some perhaps less relevant today. My list of favourites would include one or more of Tubal Cain's titles, Martin Cleeve and Ivan Law.

No doubt some of the more recent titles are in the process of becoming "national treasures".

It would be interesting to know what the best sellers are.

At least get Tubal Cain's Drills, taps & Dies from the WPS.

But don't just use it as a reference book – read it from cover-to-cover!

If you have a Myford lathe, G.H Thomas's two books are very useful reading.

How big is your Christmas stocking?

I would recommend Tom Lipton's Metalworking books. Sink or Swim & Doing it better. Excellent books with 100's of colour photos. A wealth of in depth tips & tricks for machinists, welders & fabricators. Available from Amazon.

I have both and think they are more up to date than many of the Worshop series though I have most of them as well.

Of course you will probably need Brian Woods offering as well  Gearing of lathes for screwcutting.

I have a small library of the workshop series of books and as said read them cover to cover then as and when dip in and out.

Thank you all for your input. they are just enough as stocking fillers and not as a big present. Now to see which would suit me best.
