      Hi folks

I have been asked to clear my Dads workshop, there are many engineering items including measuring, milling, drilling.

I'm no engineer so I am out of my depth with a lot of the things, some are in boxes others not.

I have listed some things on ebay username alontoast99

Anyone wanting to discuss any sale can contact me directly on

      07855 689389 or at al.fireblade.z1@hotmail.co.uk

      My name is Alistair.

      Cheers

That scooter looks familiar, I think your Dad and I are Facebook friends, though we've never actually met each other.

You've an interesting email address, Fireblade and a Z1; mine are Yam/Guzzi/Ducati/Triumph

Wishing your Dad all the best.

That's quite probable to be honest, he was an active user on here and Facebook, he isn't in the best of health now and need full time care, hence the reason for clearing the workshop, I'm out of my depth with this to be honest and don't really know if I'm ask too much or too little but we will see what happens.

Yes the email address, I used to be big into my bikes, at the time I opened the address that's what I had, an RRX and a 2005 Z1. fun days!

I will let him know you've let on when i go see him next

            Cheers

                Hi David

It's Crewe in Cheshire, I have another friend of my Dad's coming Tues to help with identifying what more obscure things are but yeah if your not too far away that would be appreciated, There is a lot of stuff to work through and limited time. Also not a problem if its too far to justify the travel!

                Cheers

Is he or was he in a model-engineering or vehicle-restoration society? If so, you could also ask them to help.

He is still with us but now unable. He would sort of do his own thing to be honest….

I will put together a list of things still to go tomorrow and post on this thread.

putting alontoast99 into ebay search engine produces no matches, can you post a proper link.

A list of what's for sale would be good, I'm fairly local, but don't want to waste your or my time on a speculative trip

Hi Duncan, if you click on the Advanced just to the right hand side of search, then under the Advanced search, tick, by seller, and then paste or type the seller's name into the blank oblong box, and then scroll down to search, all the items that the seller has, will be listed.

                                        Regards Nick.

right got it. OP would do better describing 'flat steel plate' as a cast iron surface plate (which it looks like) and putting a size on it

That surface plate is in superb condition. The scratches detract from that hardly at all. It has a cover so it was probably a grade A. Looks about 12" x 10".

Set the title as "cast iron surface plate with cover". Post the size in inches and if it has a tag on the edge put that pic in the auction. You should get £50 minimum.

Those "solid steel blocks" will doubtfully sell at the price IMO.

Alistair, as well as eBay, consider posting on here first, as there won't be any selling fees, and I suspect most prospective buyers from this site will be genuine.
If it doesn't sell here of the next option then resort to ebay.

Also consider Home Workshop, which is as site now managed by the son of John Stevenson, its founder.
                                                https://www.homeworkshop.org.uk/

Posting there isn't immediately intuitive, but it has a large readership of genuine buyers, and again no fees other than donations.

Posting photos here, all on the same thread, before formally advertising, may help with descriptions and valuations.
This might well assist with items such as the milling machine, dividing head, metal multi-former etc. that I noticed in one of your Dad's photos on Facebook.

                                                  Hi folks,

Thanks for the advice so far, I will alter the listing for the surface plate tomorrow as I will be going to the workshop again, this is where I'm struggling with things, if it has a box or I know how to title a listing then I can list it, I'm going to take lots of pictures tomorrow and I will try and figure out how to post them on here, I have listed a couple of things in classified that have been listed on Ebay but no images on here.

The steel solids are listed as an offers listing, ideally with the idea that a potential buyer willing to collect can pretty much cherry pick from what is available,

There are things in dads workshop that look that they may be part of something but I'm not sure, he has a lot of things that "may be useful" and "where would you get one of them"

Dad did say about home workshop, honestly its all a bit overwhelming, I will try and sort things out and get images posted on here, there are boxes and boxes of screws and fasteners, there are some really nice chrome small metric allen bolts, not sure what size without measuring.

                                                  I have here now

A shardlow vernier height gauge 12"

A 12" digital height gauge unbranded but boxed (I think he bought from a show)

A 6 pcs telescoping gauges set

                                                  A set of 4 micrometers -0-25mm 25-50mm 50-75mm 75-100mm

A pair of 3x32x1" parallel blocks with holes (I think were something to do with the milling machine)

                                                  4x Soba precision squares

                                                  acr euro precision angles

                                                  unbranded digital vernier 12"

                                                  workzone digital vernier 6"

                                                  2x inside micrometers (caliper type)

Hi Alistair, Digital and Vernier often get confused, below is a photo of two calipers, the top one is a digital caliper and the bottom one is a Vernier caliper. Generally digital and Vernier should not be used together.

                                                    digital v vernier.jpg

The photo below shows the Vernier scale better, which is the 1 to 10 on the slider, which you will not see on the digital one.

                                                    Hope this helps.

                                                      Hi Nick

This helps, so Venier is a mechanical or analogue way of reading the measurement?
