about a week ago the motor on my super 7 started making a funny noise and got really hot, oh heck I thought, still on to google search and Massey Coldbeck (no connection except previously mentioned Google search) so rang them told the nice man what I wanted and he asked if I had a reversing switch, yes, so he says we have plenty but we will have to modify one for you. It duly arrived yesterday and had all the expected terminals plus two wires in a piece of chocolate block, so wire for wire swop switch on and FLASH all the breakers tripped oh heck I thought again! So a quick call and the nice man says our tech guy is off today but I can e mail you the instruction sheet which he did so I will try again tomorrow but for all your info I have attached the instructions should you come across one of these.image.jpeg

          Hi Mike,
That looks to be correct. A and AZ will be one winding an the red and black wires the other winding. They are connecting the pair if wires from the reversing switch that have the same polarity in forward and reverse to the winding whose ends connect to the A ans AZ terminal. They are connecting the pair of wires from the reversing switch whose polarity is reversed between forward and reverse to the winding that is terminated in the red and black wires. Where I have used the term "winding" above in one case there could be a capacitor and centrifugal switch in series with the actual winding. (This would be the start winding.) Are you sure that you have identified the wires from the reversing switch correctly ? Is ther a start capacitor on the orighinal motor ? Is there a start capacitot on the new motor. ? Are there any capacitors in the control box with the reversing switch ? Are there 4 wires (Plus earth) to the motor from the reversing switch ?

          Les.

Les,, Thanks I thought as much but was just confused by the connection block instead of using the terminal board like other motors. Both motors are cap start ind run, the lathe was wired from the switch to the terminal block on the back then to be he motor so all I did was swop wire for wire ( or so I thought) since the motor had been on for 35 years I reckon it was probably due so I have stripped the old wire out and completely reworked the switch to the terminal block in flexi conduit and singles I will wire the motor in the morning and report back! Cheers Mike
