In the 'letters box' on top of the 'shoe cupboard' I've just found a package containing a reel of 0.63mm 316L stainless wire I wasn't expecting until the new year ![](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
Curiously there was also a spool of 0.16mm nichrome which it turned out is a sample of 10 metres of 'vaping wire'. I'm sure this will be very handy for making some telescope dew heaters but although the data sheet included gives me over a dozen useful properties of the wire, the figure for ohms/meter has been left out!
OK, it's easy enough for me to measure it, but ironic to give me density, elongation at rupture and micrographic structure and leave out the most useful property of something used as a heating element!
The max continuous service temperature is 1200C so perhaps I should use it to make a tiny kiln ![](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
