I remeber the two-pin plugs with a pair of brass split pins in. I was born in ’62, and my Dad had a TV shop & rental business in those days. He was very slow to get into colour, but I remember the first time I saw one (it was in our living room!) – it was a jockey in the paddock and his bright pink silks against the bright green grass are in my mind even now!
The shop (Wyatt’s Radio of Barry) had been my grandfather’s and as a teenager I had many happy hours digging around in twenty years worth of electrical junk. One room had a huge (4″+ diameter I’d guess) lightbulb with a carbon filament that still worked. The telephone had a dynamo you had to wind up to contact the exchange, even though we had a ‘normal’ phone at home, just up the road.
