William cylinder drain cocks

Hi all

Martin Evans William 3 1/2 inch steam locomotive.

Drain cocks are not shown on the plans but I'm sure it's best to have them

I really need to buy a commercial product as 3 years in with this project I need to make a bit quicker progress!

Could I use automatic drain cocks or should I put on some lever operated ones and manually operate them. I don't intend to go for linkage rods.

Not going to be easy manually operating lever type cocks, how are you going to manually operate all four together without linkage? Steam operated or automatic will both be suitable alternatives.

for my last 4 locos I have used auto drain cocks and they have worked every time

there have been articles on ME and EIM and In Stan Bray’s book

Saves a lot of work with linkage etc.

I have a 3.5" gauge william with automatic drain cocks and find them largely trouble free. They work best if given a quick squirt of a light solvent after use to help clean the oil emulsion out. I've been running them for two years.

Mine were from Kennions, no issues.Mine were 3/16 x 40 but obviously yours are whatever size you choose.
