..not having much luck amongst my usual suspects, and getting bored with looking through a million search results at bits of silver steel and gauge plate..

What’s wrong with a bit of silver steel? It’s precision ground and of known specifications.

Page 87 of M Machine's catalogue has it.

I think the catalogue used to describe it as "mild steel", not simply "steel". I assume it still is mild steel. It certainly behaved like it was when I bought some 1/4" a couple of years ago.

EKP supplies of Barnstaple, Devon list imperial PGMS, EN1A grade, up to one inch in diameter.

                Usual disclaimer.

I use m-machine and they take the time to individually wrap each piece to protect it they also do metric sizes and it machines a lot nicer than silver steel

Perfect,I'll try M-machine, could only see 1 1/8" on their Ebay store but will give them a call tomorrow. I was after metric.

EKP is also a good shout have used them for other stuff before.

If I get stuck I'll send Mrs Diogenes's brother to Kings Lynn.

Baz, I've got Silver Steel, just didn't want to use it for this application where appearance / ease of machining matters more than toughness.

                    Thanks all.
