Thanks for the info Bernard but no mention there of the flat 4 engine, a 2.5cc opposed twin and the V8 only get mentioned.

The slightly larger flat four “PEEWIT” and the opposed twin derived from it that was in ModEngWorld are not the same engine as Emgee is after. I do have the issues of SIC that the PEEWIT was in.

I suppose at 5.3cc it uses some of the V8 parts as that was 10.6cc

Complete volumes available on ebay or from Tee publishing but a bit pricy.

I found a few more photos, possibly the same engine builder as the one on David Carpenter’s site

Thanks for the link to the great pictures, yes it is clear from those the common parts are the cylinders, pistons and rods. the cylinder heads are also the same design but for 2 and not 4 cylinders.

Bernard, I will go back and check.

                    Emgee,

This extract from an index PDF from the link on this page, would indicate to me that the design was also published in Model Engine World :

                    Extract from index

Not much to go on, but it might give you another line of investigation.

John, a twin only has two cylinders. It’s a 5.3cc flat four “boxer” engine we are after.

There is also an earlier mention of a “Flat Four 4-stroke” but whether that is the one Emgee wants or the Peewit I am not sure. Only a single issue of Mod Eng World also seems a bit short for a full set of plans, maybe just an article about one of his flat fours?

Good spot, Jason. Should’ve gone to Specsavers. Come to think of it – I did! Pity I didn’t have my thinking head on.

Many thanks to all who have responded to my request, knowing now the engine is described in SIC magazine I will check my index of copies for the article.

No The Peewit is in SIC which is not the same. Yours has all the valve gear above the crank, the Peewit has it all below

The Whittle engine build was described in EIM starting in Vol. 21 #7, Jan. 2000 and ran to Vol. 22 #5. I’ve sent you a PM.
