      Hi all

At this difficult time many of our usual suppliers are not open for business for good reasons. But some are still open, and there are a lot of modellers and potential modellers who suddenly have more time on their hands. This situation could go on for months.

Might there be value in having a thread which contained an alphabetical list of suppliers with an "open or closed" note to give a handy reference for those needing materials or tools? Either forum users or the suppliers themselves could add information. It might save a lot of phone calls to suppliers who are open, and who could do without a lot of "Are you open?" calls.

It will probably need a moderator to give this idea shape, but as a starting point I am aware of :-

Arc Euro Tools – closed Opening again for mail order

Macc Models – open for mail order

There are dozens of other suppliers but I, for one, have no idea who is open and who is not.

      Rod

Not ME related but one of the major classic m/cycle suppliers was happy to take my order and my money over their website and then subsequently send me an e.mail to say the order is made up but wont be dispatched till after business returns to normal following the lifting of government restrictions. I feel they should have posted it on their website BEFORE you placed the order and made the payment. So I suggest you confirm with any supplier first.

                    Good luck all.

I am sure Myford were closed but they now appear to be trading.

Not that anyone wants anything to do at home. so probably not interested that Screwfix are open. Sort of click & collect in the doorway as is B & Q. Pay up front & collect next day. Park in a bay & items brought out to you.

                            Steve.

It's a little academic for me which mailorder suppliers are open for business and which aren't because the postal service in my area is barely functioning; we haven't had any letters or parcels delivered for over a week though we are expecting several.

Oh dear. I take it you are in a remote location. We are getting post ok in Leeds.

We're remote from civilization, yes, and simultaneously less than two miles from the centre of a UK conurbation that has six times the population of Leeds.

So I guess you are not in Scarborough then. Obviously a very secret location.

Some strange ratiocination going on there, Steve. You speak as if you assumed I lived in Scarborough. Do you assume everyone on the forum lives in Scarborough until you see evidence suggesting otherwise? Perhaps I need to check the place out again after all these years to see what I'm missing.

Where is "obviously a very secret location"? Apart from Area 51 and Lord Lucan's hiding place, I mean.

Trouble is, things are changing from day to day under current conditions and are likely to get more so as things progress. A lot of ME suppliers are small or even one-man operations so can shut down overnight if one gets sick, or has to tend to a sick loved one etc etc. Let alone changing rules, enforcement of and attitudes to social isolation. A fellow might be prepared to go to the post office and risk sending packages one day but that could change the next if his neighbour gets sick etc.

So no list is going to be reliably up to date. Better to check individually with suppliers before ordering perhaps? Or assume if their website is up and running, so is the business?

It seems to be impossible to plan for anything right now.

Yes I tend to agree with Hopper that any company listed here will only be trading on the day posted and could be closedor operating differently tomorrow.

Even the OP's mentions Macc being open yet from the other thread they are having difficulty soucing some items and possibly don't show what they actually have in stock when ordering so that part or tool you need urgently may not arrive for a week or two so you would have been better going elsewhere.

As for the likes of Screwfix, try to use them only for emergency repairs and stay indoors getting materials for a bit of DIY during the lockdown is not essential IMHO

Hi guys, what terrible times we are living in at the moment. For now CuP are open. Glen and I are working alternate days so we are observing social distancing. As Hopper says things are changing and this may certainly change after this weekend if conditions are tightened due to selfish idiots going out this Easter.

However, we are confident we meet the guidelines for now so have every intention of carrying on. Carriers are calling every day (again observing distances) and we are posting orders every day. Hopefully we will see some light at the end of the tunnel shortly and some normality will return.

                                                Stay safe everyone.

screwfix also have a delivery option, ordered on friday, could have had it delivered on Sat but chose Mon. only added £5 to bill. it was on my doorstep by 0900. well packaged – great service.

DIY is essentiual if it keeps you from going doolally – i needed to get a 2mtr arial up at rooftop level, needed brackets, clamps etc – so! why not? it put no one in harms way (apart from me up a ladder at my age!). it did not involve being near anyone else.

i think some people take the essential/non essential business a little too far? only my opinion though.

I think most companies are still up but mail order only. Notable exception is Arc Euro Trade.
