Hi what ignition system of the rcexl style would you recommend as I can only find ones suitable for the bigger plugs it’s for a Nemett Lynx 15cc

I went with the one from S/S in the states, have used them quite a bit on the hit and miss engines too, they do a nice neat plug boot for the small 1/4 x 32 plugs and small diameter silicon insulated wire not that ugly braided stuff.

You could also look at Minimag's offerings like the MCL1 which would work OK

A lot of of the Rcexl systems have auto advance that does not work well on these engines.

The RCexl systems will work but the sensor needs to be on the crankshaft, not on the camshaft, as these are designed for 2 stoke engines. The wasted spark on the other TDC is not a problem as there is no combusible mixture.

They start with full advance, 28°, which drops to 4° at around 400rpm and then starts rising at 1000rpm reaching full advance again at 4000rpm. This should be ok for a Lynx but is not suitable for low speed hit and miss type engines.

1/4-32 versions are available from Just Engines and I assume other suppliers.

Jason the cap and wire is ugly on the rcexl and out of proportion I will have a look into the ss type thanks

Thanks roger relating to the sensor issue I did think of adding two magnets 180 degrees opposed on a disc on the cam and run it as a wasted spark potentially

The RCexl screened cable and plug cap are probably necessary if you are flying the engine in an RC aircraft but as you say otherwise somewhat bulky.

                    Best regards

They use the screen and outer metal casing of the cap as the ground, S/S and Minimag have a separate small wire
