If you take the build from stock approach the Brooks design from early 1993 MEW looks to have much to recommend it.  It was the one I was going to build before a used Clarkson appeared at “wallet came out smoking” price.  The Raymac looks an interesting idea too.

 

Seem to recall articles on a CNC based T&C system “not too long ago” in MEW / ME.  Given how much practice is needed to master more complex jobs on conventional T&C grinders I’m wondering if that may be a better way to go. Although I suspect the idea hasn’t yet evolved fully within our community.
