Which Chester mini lathe/mill is this?

I've just got a second-hand Chester mini lathe/mill unit. No model name on the lathe – just a serial number 70092. Without knowing what model it is – it will be difficult to get the correct spares. Does anyone recognise this lathe/mill?

It's a Chester Mini-Multi, which I think has been out of production for some time.

Hi Neil,

After posting my question, I thought I'd start to download the manuals to see if any fitted the bill – luckily the Chester Mini-Multi was not too far down the page. The manual's photo's are not very good either on screen or printed out – so I wondered if I retook the photos using my mini-multi and inserted them into a re-vamped pdf manual for the Mini-Multi whether it would be acceptable as a replacement on the "manuals" list – or is there some legal copyright gotcha to doing this.

But anyway thanks for the quick reply and information. Do you have any more information as to when they were produced and for how long?

You might want to send a copy of the revamped manual to Chester and ask them. If they are happy, I'll put it on the site.

Hi Colin,

Very busy few weeks here at Chester UK, so only just got around to reading the forum.

We would be very grateful if you took the time to do this, all you need to do is put a brief description in with your "fine tuned!" manual to say that you have done this yourself and any body using it should bear this in mind.

We do still have a select amount of parts for these machines on the shelf and obviously accessories are not a problem. Any questions just let me know.

Hi Tony,

I have no idea what accessories might be available for the Mini-Multi lath/mill unless you are just talking about lathe and mill cutters. Is there a 4-jaw headstock available? Is there an alternative tool post – possibly a "boat" or "rocker" tool post.

I will start on the manual right away.

Hi Colin, the scan below may help to establish what accessories were available at the time they were on sale.

These machines were certainly available from 2001 to 2005, as I have Chester catalogues for that period with them in. Not sure if they were still on sale in 2006 as they seemed to stop putting the year of their catalogues on them from 2006 to 2008.

Thanks Nick for the information about accessories for the Chester Mini-Multi. Looking at the Standard Accessories for the lathe/mill model, it seems that I managed to gain all of those with the purchase of the Chester on Ebay. Luckily – mine's faded red and not the bilious yellow on your picture.

Hi I've just picked up one of these looking for some help trying to find a manual for it unfortunately the link above doesn't seem to work anymore and also looking to find a set of belts again might be an interesting challenge reading the above posts I know this is an old post but it's worth a try thanks in advance for any help/info

HI Richard, not sure there are many of these in circulation.

The lathe part is basically a SIEG C0 so google should find a manual for that.

ok Neil will have search and yes it us an old lathe but would be a shame to scrap it as seems to have had little use and in very clean condition and a great starting point to learn about using a lathe and I'm very limited on space just a shame they used an odd size belt and pitch in it as a last resort I can get a belt from usa with shipping for around £25 which starting to look that way.As above from previous post a suggestion was a C1 belt will work so trying that option 1st

The machine you have started off as a Harbor Freight model.

It isn't based on a C0 or C1, and it was not made by a factory under the SIEG umbrella. So, I am not sure if the C0 or C1 belt will work for you. If I recall, it was close to a C0 in size, rather than the C1.

Hi Ketan thanks for the update looking in the manual the C1-121 belt is correct spec spoke to a supplier he can do the C2 belt which almost the same its 9mm wide as opposed to 10mm and for around £15 for the pair it's worth a try once arrived will check and post the outcome

this one yes according to manual should be the correct spec so will see as your showing concerns it may not fit but as I'm going by what the manual says I can only try

now this one seems to fit but very tight and have issues with the cog set the one at top chuck end the cog seems to be lifting off the bearing so I would say this belt is a no shame as it's what the manual specs for it will keep looking unless anyone has a suggestion
