Which bronze?

Good morning,
Hoping you can help with this,

Phosphor bronze PB102

Or

Colphos

I’m looking to order a couple of PMR fittings, a valve & tee. Also some round & hex bar material.

Out of the two above bronze options which appears more coppery in colour, ie would best match the cast bronze of the PMR valve?

OR, are both of the above nearer the colour of brass?

Colphos is more of a copper color than PB102

Strangely have just been using both materials to make some bearings and a small part for a blowdown valve. The Colphos I have is much more coppery in colour to the PB102. Both materials supplied by M-Machine.

I don’t think it matters too much as far as properties as long as you stay away from Aluminium and Manganese Bronze. Colphos 90 is nice to use and is a dark reddy brown in clour. Both round and hexagonal bar are available from M-Machine (just a happy customer).

Colphos for me as it machines nicely.

I have some PMR cast pipe fittings here and can’t see much of a difference in colour between the two

Courious as to why 1/2″ Hex does not appear to be available anywhere in Colphos 90?!

I am not sure but I think some Colphos 90 non-metric AF sizes are the same as Whitworth bolt head AF dimensions.

I have just bought two length to make steam fittings assuming that is the case. If not, I am not really worried. Some spanner will fit even if I have to make/modify one.

Thanks JA, the available sizes seem to jump from 7/16″ to 3/4″ without much if anything inbetween.

Yes suppling to spanner sizes makes some sense of course, but not everything ends up needing a spanner!

Still rather puzzelled!
