      I've seen some beautiful clocks here, i want to do want but i want every hour to have some kind of light, leds light seem like the logical choice but i was wondering if there's was an alternative

          Leds are probably the most practical way to do it. they are very easy to use and by experimenting with resistor values you can closely match the brightness of different colours.

          If you want something in the form of a very thin panel that can be obtained in various shapes, look at electroluminescent panels – but more complex to drive:

            Hi

            Another alternative could be to use fluorescent paint and a hidden/discrete UV source either a black light or UV LEDs. By using different fluorescent paints you would be able to have different colours on the clock though this would only be at its best in dim to dark conditions.

              You could look at the Corpus Clock which makes interesting use of LEDs. It's on public view in Cambridge.
