What’s your “worst” black friday purchase

Just curious how many took advantage and what they bought.

My first was some replacements for my propane torch. Bought cheap and not happy with them so Sievert this time. Neil didn't put up the Chronos details soon enough for some of my order so 1/2 came of Cousins. Then managed to buy the wrong neck for a fine burner.

This morning my son pointed out that the Olmpus 40-150 F2.8 lens plus 1.4x converter was on offer on Amazon at circa -30%. I just had too. I've been wondering about it since it came out but not happy about the price – even with the discount.

Any way I'm pretty sure it will make a good macro lens with an achro close up lens on the end. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I too was tempted by a macro lens and settled on the Sigma 104mm macro – a reasonable reduction and an ideal Xmas present from my wife methinks!

The best prices I've seen for Sievert stuff is Hamilton Gas products. Some items were literally half the price of some other suppliers when I bought my burners.

I'd like a Pentax D FA 150-450 mm but would need it to be at least 50% off …

I've been using the Olympus 70-300mm for macro with an achromatic close up lens on it. The extra focal length gives a lot more working distance. The images get poor past 200mm though. The macro lens they do has too get too close.

This is full resolution, just cropped out of the shot – one of the "occasions" when focus was perfect. I'm still working on getting the depth of field perfect every time. It needs opening in a tab for full size.

A second hand hub for my car. Just arrived:

Now I could swap the butchered studs over – but only if I pull the hub off the bearing, which sort of defeats the object of getting a complete assembly… note the notch ground into the hub as well

I won't embarrass the company involved as they say they will sort a replacement, but that is the most ham fisted bit of dismantling I've seen in years.

I keep my head down on these occasions but was amused by the You Tube contributor who said he started suffering from "buyer's remorse" even before he had completed his purchase.

I remember the days when you would be four cars up on a swaying pile when getting your spares. These days I'm used to putting a part into breakeryard and getting it well wrapped and in good nick – at least this lump was well wrapped!

Snap. I have that problem especially with lens at that price so I tell my self – several years of happy use.

Makes it sound cheaper ??????????
