What thread

Just been asked what thread is in these 10mm tools my friend has a set of these indexable tool holders but the screws are poor and has had to butcher the head to get the screw out because the star is worn. I cannot find a similar screw which measures 3.5mm ish with a 0.8mm pitch. If anyone has any information of what thread or where screws can be bought from. The body of the holders are very hard you can not file them and no way can you tap them.

Try Jenny Blackwell of J B Cutting Tools [phone 01246 418110] The screws are known as tip screws and can be supplied with the correctly fitting Torx head wrench, small ones with a 'flag' type side grip to limit the torque you can apply

3.5 mm x 0.8 mm is a standard metric thread and you should be able to run a tap down the female part to clear out debris

A couple of years ago I bought a few different indexable tip holders from a sale at an engineering works. They came with a couple of 125mm long right angle torx spanners. All of the screws holding the tips in were so tight I had to drill most of the heads off and resort to Mole grips to remove the screws. The screws really do not need to be very tight. The little plastic flag on the torx tool only needs a little thumb and finger pressure to get to the correct torque setting.

+1 for JB Cutting Tools. Jenny has always been helpful when contacted. I bought quite a few indexable tips from her at the MMEE on the Friday.
