This site is displaying the “Myford” logo which I understand is the property of RGD since RDG bought the IP rights.

If “myfordlathes” is not RGD, “myfordlathes” is guilty of passing off, the very offence that the real original Myford was legally attacking others recently.

It would be for RDG to take offence and any legal action, which under the circumstances would seem a little uncharitable given that it’s not going to be an ongoing thing or competing with them in the future. In fact it’ll put more lathes out there and the opportunity for RDG to sell more spares and accessories. IP owners aren’t obliged to press home their rights and keeping a good working relationship with “Myfordlathes” may be beneficial during this sale period than getting all uptight about it.

Would it be a good idea for somebody to contact the asset management company to find out exactly whats going on!!!

                In what respect, ?
They seem to know what they are doing at the moment and remember they own all they are selling, they are not selling on behalf of Myfords now.
It’s now reached the stage that owners have been found for everything even if they are being resold either now or later.

They are not required to update web sites they don’t own just to keep people in the know. It’s been made clear where they are if you want to buy something.

Everyone has the chance to go down to Myfords talk to Mark at the asset company and buy whatever is unsold be it machines , plant or tooling.

RDG did that and got the stores.

Whether the price suits is entirely up to you.

BTW the auction will be held at Myfords as it’s too costly to move heavy machinery out to another site which makes sense if you think about it.

                  To quote from: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/identity-ov.html

“Business sellers on eBay.co.uk are required by the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 to display their contact details.”

… Therefore; on the evidence available, we must presume “myfordlathes” to be a private seller, not a business.

Since “Price Includes VAT!!” and a large number of lathes are being sold, it may be assumed that “myfordlathes” is a business, or is acting as one.

This raises the interesting feature that the sales are also covered by the Distance Selling Regulations and the Sale of Goods and Services Acts. This is because they are buy it now, instead of auction type sales.

It would be good to get that recognised by them before parting with any money.

However … I now see that the ebay offerings include the statement “Price Includes VAT!!”

Guys I can’t believe we are having a go at this company, the way I see it they have a job to do and are giving us the opportunity to buy lathes and other equipment at a fair price. I was at the show on Saturday and Sunday and felt that the Asset company were more than obliging and courteous.

In a way we should all feel a little bit responsible for the demise of Myford, if we had supported them throughout the year by buying lathes etc.. They may of been stil trading today.

I agree with Carl. What’s the problem? What do you expect of “Myfordlathes”? Should they offer a full spares programme or service facilities for the lathes they’re selling? If they change their ebay user name, would that make everyone happy? Get real guys.

Hello everyone, I’ve been following this thread for the last week or so and thought it about time I signed up and said something.

It’s a great pity about Myford, a really good product but at a premium price. The present economy is hard on that and what with a rather outdated way of buying spares etc I have to say I was not totally surpised.

I heard about it because I’d just ordered some tools over the phone. A couple of days later Linda phoned to explain what had happened, and sounded quite upset – who can blame her? Fortunately, other than needing to send a cheque payable to the asset co. I got my bits.

RDG now have a brief note on their website so it seems not all is lost. Like I say, it’s a great pity but rather symptomatic of much UK manufacturing, premium priced products appeal only to the few who can afford them, and when that number drops so does demand, but wages still have to be paid.

Anyway, it’s good to be on the forum and I hope to make more posts.

Following the information in this thread that ‘myfordlathes’ were selling off the stock lathes on ebay and that no information was displayed regarding business details ,someone has obviously questioned ebay about this as today the info is displayed;-
                              Company- Asset Preservation Partnership LLP.
                              Company Registration Number-OC328694.
                              VAT Reg No-GB916830713.
With regard to the lathes advertised as ‘New’ then the same buyer protection rights have to be given by the vendor as any other seller of new goods, so in the event of a problem occouring to the lathe after being sold then it will still be up to the vendor to put it right, replace ,or refund, the law is quite straightforward on this, Your rights as a buyer are protected even on ebay !! Were I looking to replace My aging ML7 at present ( which I am not1) then I am sure I would have no hesitation in looking to obtain a replacement big bore 7 from this source, but not at the advertised prices ! Most of the ‘New’ lathes are on buy it now or open to offer, so the opportunity is there to grab a bargain ,probably for the very last time, ( I did make an offer of £101 for a new S7 , but they rejected it !!!)
                              Cheers now, Mick.

I understand that it’ll be a few month before RDG get all their Myford stock listed and up for sale but for those who need brand new Myford Spares and can’t wait, a large stock of spares bought just prior to Myford closing its doors are available here:

                                      Myford so what happens now.

It looks as if very few, if any, of the Myford lathes actually sold on the Ebay web sight.

Will the lathes be put in auctions?

Could I ask advice on the following matter
Myford Brand – Dickson tool holders I believe were manufactured by a small company in Devon or Cornwall Does anyone know if they are still making these and if they can be purchased ?

You can tell genuine Myford as they have a W on them.
Should have been an M but they read it upside down.

The very early B.A. screw ones didn’t have the “W” on them either. The knurling on the height adjuster was different too.

Genuine ones aren’t too hard to come by either. The holders are very robust and I’ve never found a duff one (that wasn’t obviously abused) secondhand. The cams in the post itself can wear after a longish time but again most secondhand examples I’ve seen are fine. There are cheap far eastern clones to be had which look superficially the same but apart from not being made quite so well, I believe you can’t always mix and match genuine to clone because of fit problems. The genuine ones are worth the extra IMHO.

Never having used the small series that fit the ML series, what size tool do they take max ?
