I find using constraints on the end points of lines largely removes any need to trim them. For instance, a coincident constraint for the ends of a line and an arc, then a tangent constraint between them will only require a couple of dimensions to produce a robust part that is actually what you thought you’d drawn.

Surely Atom allows you to turn toggle the visibility of construction lines? Although needing to do that to reduce clutter is a good indication that one complex sketch might be better split into several simpler ones.

        Nick –

Not sure. I have just experimented. Alibre Atom uses its own indicator rectangles for planes, and you can draw “Reference Lines” to aid construction. It is possible to toggle the former on and off but not the reference lines, I don’t think. It’s easier to delete them after use. Sometimes I use ordinary lines as construction lines and delete them afterwards.

What I don’t know is if you can leave these construction aids on the sketch so when returning to it later, e.g. if you need modify something, you don’t have to try to rebuild them or find the centres of circles.

Of course you can leave reference figures in place – they are ignored by the 3D feature which consumes the sketch.  The purpose of reference figures is to help construct the sketch – I don’t see why you would want to delete the reference figures ( doing so just makes things hard if you need to go back and adjust a sketch).

Note also that the right click menu gives options to convert between regular and reference figures.
