I'm curious to know how the owners of the site are going to change its direction.

          Possibilities are :-

Strict rules on what can and can't be posted.

Moderators to delete comment, posts or threads not deemed suitable for the good of the forum.

Restricting access to those who have shown that their views are acceptable.

The revolution will not be televised!

          Regards.

          David.

As people can't read I will start the dot punch thread for them and move all the post here.

11 posts moved that had nothing to do with the topic and a classic example of threads going off in the wrong direction which puts people off.

Please think about what you type and if there is any likelyhood of it taking the thread off topic consider starting a new one and reference back to the original point raised if needed.

I see that another of my posts has been "disappeared" without any evidence of editing by a Moderator.

… I don't mind the censorship of content, but I do object to this.

So, that's it then Jason. No matter that it appears the vast majority were happy the way things were, posts will now be edited until they conform to the minority who whine.

Mark as I have said over the wekend, I quite often start a new thread and move posts there so as you say the majority were happy with that so I will carry on doing it unless instructed otherwise.

Moving posts that have nothing to do with the thread keeps things organised and makes it easer for people to find things. Would you look under Website Questions, comments & suggestions if you wanted to know about dot punches?

I'm afraid it seems to be a minority of members who are calling for some subjects (notably pictures of m31) to be banned.

in practice I think we will see only two changes – a more pro-active approach to putting things in the right place and less tolerance for allowing arguments between posters to boil over into bad temper.

I have read this thread with some interest and growing anger, if there is a minority who are not happy with the way this forum is run well I say sod off and form your own forum and you can argue amongst yourselves. For myself I think it was great just the way it was and I say a BIG THANKYOU to Neil and the moderators for giving up their time to provide us with this forum—-end of rant

                                Neil,

                                Very sensible.

The first point doesn't affect me in any way as I only look at the latest posts box. If I want to refer back to a post that isn't there any more I use the search function.

Your second change will I'm sure be welcomed by most of the forum members.

What I was trying to show by my post is that, unless you implement my suggestions the forum will go in the direction that the majority of its members take it.

Which is where I believe it should go.

                                Regards.

Regarding the recent squabbling on here, I really wonder what somebody casually looking in to see what the site is like might think.

Would they think this is full of interesting people with a good hobby, or would they think what a miserable lot they are?

I like the variation in topics relating to our hobby at times the armchair engineers with all their knowledge can be daunting.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff can be very interesting and have found the practical hands on engineers have been the most helpful.

Suggestions that relate to my questions have been useful but as two members have said in the past to some of the replies that is not what I asked.

                                              To put it simply.

One person or a minority should not be allowed to state rules on a forum.

The forum works and supplies good content for the majority of readers.

                                                To put it simply.

One person or a minority should not be allowed to state rules on a forum.

The forum works and supplies good content for the majority of readers.

Regarding the recent squabbling on here, I really wonder what somebody casually looking in to see what the site is like might think.Would they think this is full of interesting people with a good hobby, or would they think what a miserable lot they are?

Probably the latter, but I fear far worse – more like a vision of squabbling bigoted rabble who need to have something more important to worry about.

Come on folks, you are better than this. No point in having more categories. Works already.

                                                    Neil,

I think this post has run it's course and that it's the only non MEW / ME related post on the first page but as long as it stays here it will be a magnet to continue a lost cause.

As you started the thread I feel it would be best if you removed it ?

This way we get back to how the forum used to run and run very well.

                                                      You are right John,

I think as moderators we are all broadly agreed on that.

I will lock the thread so people can see the discussion is complete, but don't feel their comments have been swept aside.
