Agreed I'm finding it difficult to listen to, some scenes are down right embarrassing.

Also just listened to the Archers. Rob Tichenor – the hounds have got your scent, your end is nigh!

No chance, this one will run and run.. Helen will fall off her perch in childbirth and then the ghastly Rob will cop for 50% of Bridge Farm and then we will have all the drama that that will produce😕

Stripped a rather large laser printer ( 4 really big modules) – lots of goodies – now the fun begins with stripping the component transports and other messy bits. My garage floor has disappeared again.

I listen a lot to the Archers and find it so weird. The total cast is humourless, especially when two or more chaps gather. And the fact that they never mention money in numerical terms. Sort of like Brian said "theres a good profit in that" when referring to a land deal to his wife, where as, a real person would say some thing like " Theres at least 40 grand in it for us"

Not worth retuning for fifteen minutes..

A few months ago we had a 'what is it' that was finally agreed to be a gizmo for pulling up riding boots. While wandering round the farmers merchant today I saw then on sale, cheepo version at £1.75.

Also found a small plain flat file in with the chainsaw files that may convert nicely into a die filer machine file.

The other day someone bought a large quantity of second class stamps and to my amazement they were asked for the exact amount!

Could it be done purposely so they don't date. ?

Always seems to stick out in old books like Neville Shute's where money is mention to date the book

Superb day out, if you haven't been go soon as due to governemt spending cuts it will soon close for ever. If they received a small fraction of the subsidy we give to the Royal Opera House it wouldn't be in this state, but then it isn't in the south east, so central government doesn't give a damn.

If everyone in the UK who reads this writes to his MP to complain we might get somewhere, but I doubt it.

Duncan If you go to the Queen Street Mill website there is a petition ( for what its worth ) The Helmshore mills are also under threat The Bancroft Mill in Barnoldswick is still going but that is mainly only the engine and i think one working loom

Astley Green is well worth a visit just to see that huge winding engine, even if it isn't running.

If you're into winding engfines then Haig Pit Whitehaven is a must, probably no bigger than Astley Green, but there's 2 of them, and perched on the cliffs in a spectacular setting. The miners worked miles out under the Irish Sea, and I remember the rope worked incline down to te harbour, talk about ricketty. I particularly liked the 'canary reviver'. Gave the canary a whiff of oxygen if it had keeled over due to firedamp. Not because of any benevolent feeling towrards canaries, rather because canaries were expensive!

I have looked at the website and cannot find a petition, or link to one.

Can you provide a direct link for this? I am quite happy to sign petitions which attempt to save out wonderfull heritage from the never ending pinch.

Totally different subject – Monday evening was incredibly clear after the storms. I got this (cropped) picture with an ordinary telephoto lens on a tracking mount.the Leo Triplet of galaxies, I've spent this evening re-processing it.

                                              Nice job Neil yes

Today and yesterday I've been remaking a rotary broaching tool that I got wrong on the first attempt. Some external threading 30mm x 1.5mm pitch on brass to take a bearing retaining nut. To make the nut will require internal threading tools. As I have no internal tools yet I thought about a piece of silversteel bent at the end and ground for the thread form, 60°. But then I found some old turning and milling tools that were sadly left out in the weather for a few years.

I've now put them in their own first aid box with white vinegar in the hope they'll be resurrected.

                                              Ed.

Some of the tools in the state I found them.

                                              Soaking in the bubble bath.
