Surely it would have said "made by GHT" rather as it does VDH (designed) by GHT. ??

      .

To be specific: Below the body-text it states …

      PRICE £ 425.00

      .

      .

Frankly, however [and despite Neil's confidence]; I am not entirely convinced.

I agree with Kwil. If it was in fact a device made by the man himself I would be shouting it from the highest roof top, and making it absolutely clear that 'here' we have a valuable piece of history.

Where the writer states Maker:GHT, well he's just got it wrong there.

… Which is more or less where we came in.

… Might as well put it to bed now.

P.S. … Just for completeness, Steve: The "Trademark" is one of two [very similar] registered by the same individual. [see second page of the link in your first response]. … The plot thickens; but I've lost interest.

With regard to Internet / telphone scams.

                Possible responses:

                1) "I haven't got a computer"

                2) What are you like with County Court Judgements? (VERY good on Double Glazing/ Solar Panel salespeople)

                3) When they ask for you, or your partner, by name, say "Hold the line please whilst I get them" and very quietly put down the phone. After a few minutes they get the drift and hang up. BUT if your phone is off the hook, it still holds their line, so they can't pester anyone else, until you hang up.

                4) In U K, the response to a cold call is "I have Caller Display, Are you aware of the Telephone Preference Service"? Usually, that causes them to drop the phone instantly. Reporting the number to the TPS results in an rapid contacting of the company and, at least, an instruction to delete you from their list.

                5) If you get an E mail from an unknown company with an attachment of an Invoice for a refund, or an overdue payment. Bin it, DO NOT open the attachment, since it probably contains a virus, or is just a phishing exercise to get your bank or card details.

                SICK PEOPLE !

The best ones were those from friends, claiming to be have been mugged in Kiev, etc Funny, you were in California yesterday as far as I knew! Had two tries like that. (Obviously Concorde flies again)

2 emails I get regularly here in the States, one is a red headed Russian woman (who can seem to find Me at will.) And the second is from the American version of Scotland Yard (FBI) who says it cannot find Me. Been thinking of giving each the others email address.wink 2

I get lots of emails from Chinese engineering companies.

Most of them appear kosher, although they usually offer products beyond the scope of a home workshop.

Sadly none of them have offered me a 5-axis CNC machine for review yet

As for workshop activity, had a bit of a session with the bandsaw. A couple of 12mm slices of a very short end of 2 1/4" EN1a and a thinner one off a bit of same diameter brass. It cut the steel noticeably faster.

I've started using it for even small bits of metal since extending the jaws and adding a support shelf, as it does a neater job than an ordinary hacksaw. I was also able to grip the 25mm bit of steel by not much more than 2mm on the end to cut it in half.

If like me, you are subscribed to Argos email offers watch out, last week I got two emails apparently sent by Argos.

They were spoofs (using the wrong email address) with attachments, obviously I did not open those!

I don't think so Howard – in the UK it is the caller who holds the line.

If you receive a nuisance call just hang up and don't waste time with these plonkers.

It was only when I remembered that I had already got an Anti Virus programme so I opened this up and carried out an immediate scan of all my files whereupon it found 5 threats which I quarantined.

On starting up the message was no longer on my screen.

                                        Hi old school

The lathe is a Chester model B a 3 in 1 I've removed the mill drill part and use just as a lathe, this give it a huge swing which is very handy.

The mill is a Siege X3 supper.

As today is supposed to be the only dry day over Easter my friend Peter and I decided that it would be a good day to fit a towbar to my company owned new Renault Trafic van, I ordered the towbar last Monday and it arrived on Wednesday.

I also ordered the plug and play electrics so that I wouldn't get any issues, all went well fitting the mechanicals, had to buy a new torque wrench as my old one wouldn't go up to 280nm, other than that it all went well until we started on the electricals, my mate and I are capable with the electrics but the visual instructions were somewhat vague but we sussed it.This was until we couldn't find a "PDC" or a live feed until it dawned on us that these were behind the wooden racks that had been fitted by which time we had run out of time so next weekend we have to remove the racking to gain access to a panel where the items are, the PDC is to do with the parking sensors and the live feed is to power the control box which comes with the wiring. Things aren't easy anymore sad
