Theres A vehicle called a Sumb, a sort of French Unimog , designed on the back of a Gitanes packet. Using the old Ford flathead V8 ( introduced 1928) and a hotchpotch of French and American parts, it seems to be able to Ford adequately at least

Today I finished a pair of clamps I started 48 years ago in metalwork.
Better hand them in for marking.clamp.jpg

My wife takes these scammers calls and I see her getting spiky and she asks one question, 'What is my name' This is for the accident scammers. Then the PC invaders get the message, my husband deals with that and he's deaf, plonk, end of.

            Hi Clive,

I saw your post about the bees. I have a wasp nest in the loft and wondered when the little blighters will come out of hibernation. I won't go near it of course. Any way to encourage them to move on?

            Thanks,
            Ed.

While I appreciate (and have personally enjoyed) scammer baiting, the fact is that these low-life cause misery to hundreds of vulnerable people.

I don't know how effective it is, but can I suggest that anyone who becomes aware of one of these scams reports it here:

              **LINK**

If only because the more reports they get, the more likely that real action will be taken.

At the very least if phone numbers are reported to them they should be able to get them taken down.

I nearly got caught out yesterday – I got 'delivery report' that was described as a pdf, but when I opened it it was a word document. Luckily Office automatically disables macros and I did not get zapped by it.

I've now got a good line for these PC scammers after hearing a friend use this tactic – she asked the scammer if his mother knew what he did for a living! She then entered into a conversation asking why could he put his computer knowledge to a better use to earn him an honest living. It was fun listening to! Now I adopt the same line. After a while they hang up. I'd like to think it may stimulates some thought in the scammers conscience!

I think wasps only use a nest for a year. Come the autumn they all die except for the queen who hibernates. She wakes up in spring, lays eggs and starts a new colony with a new nest.

It is worth cutting down an old wasps nest and taking a close look. They are marvellous pieces of engineering.

A few years back a local trucking firm lost a new Mercedes truck in a fire, when the brigade got to the scene the engine was still running, so one of the fire crew soon stopped that, aimed the hose at the air intake, it STOPPED, demolished the engine, the fireman was charged with will full damage, and lost his job.

As for the computer scammers, I just say "what computer"?

Yes ED, you can safely go and destroy that nest as it is dead. The Wasp nests are seasonal and only Queen wasps get through the winter to start a new nest. Also see if you can find access hole and block it to stop further nests.

Thank you JA and Clive for the wasp information. I know where the access hole is, in the facia board just under the roof guttering, about 40mm diameter man made by the look of it. A plug of wood with some No-more-nails should do the trick.

Coaches generally have low slung, mid-mounted engines and are vulnerable to water intake. I saw a Volvo B9 engine that had suffered multiple piston damage after driving through flooding. Looked like quite a messy and expensive job to fix.

This came with a very genuine Apple type logo telling me to ring an 0800 number to get this removed.

Thats only a little one Ed, in fact in a place that gets hot in the Summer the Wasps only make a light covering but if its in a colder place then they expand the outer cover and it can be 3"" or more thick. I have had them a meter in diameter and filled a black plastic sack/bag.

Today I got my pre war bike timed after an engine rebuild and decided to try and start it tomorrow. Spent the rest of the day milling a casting I have had made for a new cross slide for my lathe. A lot beefier than the old one so I can get tee slots in and stronger in the compound slide area where mine is starting to crumble.

Browsing the PennyFarthingTools website, I found this "trademarked" statement:

Which seems a little out of context, here

                                            Hi Michael

I'm not too sure of the question, but I did a quick search in the Trade Mark register. It seems that the TM was applied for in 2014. The TM has been Withdrawn ( I think, maybe, the Start fee of £100 was paid, but the second fee was not paid, leading to cancellation). It is not a R registered TM as I understand it. More information if you follow the links on the page below.

The question, Steve, concerned the use of that trademarked phrase in connection with what I understand to be a "home built" item of unstated origin.

The trade mark probably failed because of prior rights.

A Scottish council once cointacted the charity I worked for threatening us because we used their trademark 'Natural Connections' for one of our projects. I pointed out that a quick google would show we had been using the name for around a decade or more and that we had prior rights and they could be guilty of passing off. They said their layers would be in touch – I never heard another peep out of them.

I think the interesting thing is that the dividing attachment is (claimed to be and looks like) the one made by GHT himself. Surely that gives it a value beyond just as a tool.

I sometimes get sent things to try out. A small crate of seven different soft drinks was bit unusual and doesn't really fit in the pages of MEW.

Charitea and Lemonaid are fairtrade & organic products that also help projects in the communities where their ingredients are produced. I hope no-one will mind me linking to my review of them on the blog from the other half of my existence!
