        Hi there, Ian S C,

Regarding your infection of "Security Defender", if you are able, go to this site: **LINK** . There's a complete description and an uninstaller.

        Best regards,

          Metal storage.jpg

I have been sorting out my raw material storage. My stepdaughter acquired some plastic storage trays at some time in the past that she donated to me. They were not very useful on their own but, with a bit of 6mm MDF, they now fit neatly under my bench.

It's taken me a while to post this, but a few days ago I received a much anticipated mystery package from an anonymous forum member who had noticed my interest in astronomy.

I'm delighted by this wartime publication that was produced by aviator and navigator Francis Chichester during WW2. Prevented from being an RAF pilot due to his eyesight (!) he taught navigation and spotting in the RAF Reserve.

It will be used and cared for – there are two maps, on labelled and one not – for testing your skills, as well as an explanatory booklet and early plastic-coated slip case.

P.S. Finally did the bookshelves and go the books out of the workshop and had a mad tidy up. First project when I get back in is the long awaited telescope drive, after that the Mega-Adept..

Made a simple Snake Eyes Bolt tool for son for work he will attach 3 12mm nuts and lock tite them then he can use a socket and bar to tighten these in place. The spanner the company got is useless in the tight area.

I didn't take photo of the finished or in use state hope he'll send me one.

The pin with the X on was a bad apple in the box he reckons company bought the boxes as seconds as many of them have faults not just the holes but threads as well. Stainless Steel bolts

The pins are sheer pins from die setting machines mate got me these are press fit (hammered in) 4mm protrusion.

Today I decided to make a tailstock threading adaptor for my mini-lathe as an aid for producing threaded spraybars (brass) for model engines.

Apart from the fact that I spent an hour or two grinding a boring tool from a 1/4" HSS blank (after trying the supplied and also binning the supplied chattering brazed insert rubbish) it was a pleasure to make a clean hole that fitted my circular split dies.

Add one more hour for reading up the great article by George H. Thomas (M.E. 3 June 1977) on Boring Tools.

                          I have a few questions:

                          1. How tight should one fit the split die into the adaptor body (does it need room to expand a bit and will the die run off-center if the hole is too big)?

                          2. What are the advantages/disadvantages of fitting a spring between the die-holder body and the chucking device? (I can see how it might apply positive pressure to the die, but then how much is too much)?

Dies are B.A. (of good Aussie quality ), 7/8" body dia with two locating pips and an expander slot, lathe chuck rotation is by manual labour.

Jason, I had one of those parting meltdowns today, simple task machining some bushes for a ride on mower cutter deck. Just had to have a cuppa, read the basics (again) and all ended up ok. Brass and cast iron I have no problem with but stainless and mild gives me the shakes…

very groovy finish with the cylinder head of yours!

Hi, Thanks for the Web Site, I’ll leave it to the expert, the local techy, he can take it to his workshop, put it on broad band, and do it a bit faster than here on dial up. Hope to be on Windows 10 later in the year, but will keep the windows 7 as back up.

Nearly completed a 3->1 phase conversion on a Meddings scroll saw from 1965. It's only been sitting in the workshop for just over a year. blush

Motor attached, switch attached, pulley coupling made, pulley attached. Only need to wire it up now. To do that I'll have to move the wretched thing, it weighs 80 kg and my back is sorta fragile at the moment…

                                    Regards,

                                    Richard.

Got the cylinder bored and the outside threaded M25.6×1. As I don't have a clutch or gizmo like Andrew I used the run it in reverse method as there was not much room for running the tool out and I could cut at a higher speed which I'm sure the tip prefers.

First time I'd tried the indexable threading tools which I bought at Ally Pally earlier in the year, first impressions seem good.

No DRO on the lathe for me just the handwheel dial but used Alibre to produce this from the 3D part and also convert teh metric drawing to suit my imperial lathe.

                                                    Jason,

Did not of course try the 'Embed' did I. Double DUH!

I do wish the web designer would give us a preview button.

                                                    JS,

                                                    Dear me!

Know how easily that can happen.

Geoff – Not sure if iOS8.3 is a good upgrade.

Working on my 3-1/2" gauge Shay, another one of my longer term projects!

Stephenson's Valve gear- 3 cylinders, lifting links. Not quite finished. More details on my blog, if anyone's interested in seeing how things progress, via CNC and manual machining. Blog: **LINK**
