you have to give her some artistic license

      .

In grateful thanks for the 'Blue' and 'Mingus' albums; she can have all the artistic license she wants !!

Yep i used a compression fitting to connect it to the tube coming from the cylinder, hidden inside the chimney base. Then tapped it m12 so I can make different sizes of nozzles as per your advice on another web site 😦

Well after a morning doing odd and ends in the garden I finished putting the Cameron pump together after lunch and took a quick video. Not the best quality also as its bedding in more the engine kept wanting to speed up, couldn't get the compressor regulator much lower as it was there was nothing registering on the scale.

Made a t-bolt and washer so that I can attach the drill and tap grinding accessory to my T&C grinder, ready to grind the reliefs on the square thread taps I am making. The taps have also been hardened and tempered today, in between gardening.

Managed to get around to start simple mill engine from the mag, no casting so easy to try again. Well everyone tells you measure twice cut once, nobody tells you to read the drawings three times.. Last week or so I have mucked about shaping HSS tools shapeing them grinding and generals muck about to find out what works best. Today big start day got the square bar set it up in four jaw chuck, faced it off then , parted 50mm to make the bit, to my surprise no issue there, cut like a dream, all my mucking about has paid off. On a high set up the parted part back in four jaw got it running true, drilled through the middle, carried on making holes required. Very pleased with my efforts, reward cup of coffee, then on to next bit, then noticed my error, hole should be off set, delema will it be ok looking at other things in drawings, eventually dicided bin it. Start again, problem off set in chuck, solution made a support for DTI got it so the unit ran true then marked two opposite jaws out with calculator to determine position. Whole afternoon in shop, one little bit, but it my little bit, I know looking on this board this is nothing great but I am chuffed to bits, roll on next session, I might even manage the next bit

I've been working on a 1/2 scale Gade hit & miss engine at the same time as doing the Cameron and that only has a few bits until its complete. Then I'm "doing a Ramon" and making a pair of model aero engines all from solid, should be quite a quick job as there are not many parts to them. After that Diane has talked me into making an organ engine, just waiting for her to foward some sketches)

Follwed the progress of this – **LINK** it made it in safely and arrived at 7.47.

Used only 1/2 the small strip with wheel brakes only. Better than rotting away in the Arizona graveyard.

This particular 747-400 set a record when it flew direct from London-Sydney in 20 hours on it's delivery flight.

Dialled in the camshaft on the Anzani after four year rebuild! This included making replacement mag drive bearing from cast Babett, making replacement rollers for the tappets and making vernier ( well adjustable) cam drive sprocket.

The crank case in the back ground is mis leading, it is a replica of the Bleriot engine that crossed the channel.

Edited to add , yesterday actually.

In reality this took place yesterday; I have ground the reliefs on my hardened and tempered square thread taps, using this set up:

                              grinding tap relief.jpg

The first tap took 40 minutes due to general ignorance, as I've never done this before. Having sorted the first tap, the other two took about 10 minutes each.

Naturally I tried the taps; they cut a really nice thread in a piece of scrap brass, very little force was needed. It was pleasing to drive the taps using a wrench made by my father during his apprenticeship at RAE Farnborough in the early 1940s.

Andrew, those taps look great, how did you flute them, ground, milled or a combination of both?

Need something like this to do the brake gear on my engines

How about doing a write up of the process for MEW

The flutes were milled on a horizontal mill, using a convex cutter:

                                          fluting taps.jpg

They could also be done on a vertical mill, with a ball nose cutter, but probably not in one pass, which is why I chose to use the horizontal mill.

As for writing up for MEW that's not my decision; over to our esteemed editor. smile

Bought a job lot of C5 collets from e bay so thought I better make use of them, made a spindle nose adaptor and a drawbar for my Warco 290. Could have done with a piece of thick walled tube for the drawbar but would have to have bought 6m so turned it from a piece of 1.5" bar. Lots of swarf! Took a while but finally bored through to 1.06" dia.

2nd photo shows a 1/16 collet in use to turn up some pivots, seems to run within .0005".dsc_1486.jpg

Fixed the 3D printer. Amongst the angst of it having wobblies over printing a part it had already made 40 off I noticed that the cooling fans had stopped working. Easy enough to diagnose a broken wire; but then I badgered the broken crimp by soldering the wrong end. sad So with the help of some writing on the connector, and the Farnell website, I identified the connector, and the associated crimps. One hundred (minimum order) crimps ordered yesterday, delivered at lunchtime and used this evening. Problem solved. thumbs up
