      Hi Geoff,

      I used bronze pins, IIRC

      Neil

Don't have any bronze suitable, so will see how long the silver steel lasts.

      They are easy to make.

Thinking out loud – drill holes axially then cross for lubrication?

Making things more complicated as usual dont know

Geoff – Finish it today with luck

        I like your attitude Neil!

"They" the experts said I couldn't fit 6J rims on my 105E, and that lowering the car by 2" wouldn't work.

Well, I did both without a problem, but had to hack a lump off of the tops of the rear bump stops.

The car looked GOOD, and always attracted attention.

Geoff – Ignorence IS bliss on occasion.

Just been into the Workshop to turn heating on and found I had forgotten to turn the oil radiator type off when I finished at 2120h on Saturday.

It has red 'ON' indication lights to boot, so no excuse. Cannot think of one.

            Geoff – It's 15°C in there.

Went and checked out a pre-loved Boley 5LZ. It has all the change gears, D32 high speed auto threading accessory, six-pos stop and x-feed surfacing stops.

Downside is it's in Melbourne, weighs nearly 1000kg and is 3 phase only. Also needs a paint job but ways show only a hint of wear. Quote $250 to have it delivered (I live 300Km away)

Upside is, they will take $500 for it and guaranteed not to chatter.

Also know where there are two more, one unused (spare) – (Their workshop gone all cnc, manual operator retired)  Problem is must take both!

I got a switch-top plug for my soldering iron, and use a socket where I can see it and check whenever I turn out the lights. I also have a motion sensing LED light above the door, which is a godsend and has lasted over 8 months on one set of AA cells.

Danny, just drop the new one off with my nephew in La Trobe Uni and I'll bring it home in my cabin bag on the next trip. Neil can pay the excess baggage.
Last year I got part of a boring head delivered to nephew and he used it as an ornament on the mantle for 6 months without objection from his sheila so I recon she is a keeper.

It was too heavy for a tailgate lift truck so have to book it with a local freight company. The freight depot at this end is 15 Km away, so have to have it transferred to a local delivery with a crane equipped truck or take-up my neighbours offer of his twin axle trailer. Plenty of mates with engine lifters about, so that's a slab of beer job.

The place that I found the Boley also have a Kart E1N lathe up for grabs. Since the automotive companies pulled the plugs here a lot of good kit is coming on the market – plenty of big CNC lathes and mills floating around although people are still willing to pay over the top for one of these **LINK**

That's only down the road, and it's a straight run up from Melb. Heaps of freight trucks. If I want to shop around and haggle, probably find a bloke who's looking for a backload. Lucky I'm not out in the sticks.

Costing me more to get a 3 phase connection, lucky the power pole is only across the road. Been offered a huge (freezer sized) ceramics kiln (OH&S nannies closed down the oldies pottery club) so will require the power anyway.

The other two 5LZs are a few hours north of Sydney, an ex-army fitter mate gave me the tip-off. He works for a defence contractor who is about to scrap them (bean counter says that they have been depreciated to zero). So I just have to offer more than the scrap value of 2000Kg of cast iron and a donation to to the brew club funds.

My sister lives up that way so might go for a bit of drive soon.

What a week it has been! It started off with a 5.2 earth quake that sounded like a freight train and shook the bedroom windows. Wife thought it was the dogs scratching on the door and I thought it was a "boof head" in our local park letting off some explosive device. It just rumbled on and on but actually it was only for a minute or so. Fortunately no damage and no injuries due to the epicentre being out in the bush. Tonight we are faced with the prospect of a level 4 cyclone coming in with winds up to 262 kph and between 300 and 500 mm of rain in the next 24 hours! Two years ago the catchment area for out local river (31,000 sqr Klms) received similar amounts of rain and the river rose 36 feet and a speed on of 78 kph was recorded ( on the local police radar). The cyclone is expected to come ashore at 3.0 am so I hope the shed and house roof stays on. Not sure how much sleep we will have tonight. I will let you know how things pan out. I have now finished all the drawings for the Saunderson & Mills tractor. Now busy setting all the timing on the engine.

I hope it crosses the coast at an unpopulated area but there is still the rain to contend with and right now it's pouring down and the wind is building up. Good job I managed to clean up the garden area and put everything else in the shed.

I was going to tell you about the heat treament oven that I looked at today, but that can wait for another time.

The immediate concern is George in Queensland. A level 5 cyclone has more destructive power than an atomic bomb, it's very scary. I know what happened to Darwin in 1974. So if you believe in a God, say a prayer for all the people who are copping it.

(Sorry if this is not model engineering, but some things are more important)
