          been driving this morning.

A question.. What do you thing would happen to a village if enclosed in a bubble that RIDGIDLY enforce a 30 mph spped limit to all bodies or particles ?

Well I don't think the Neutrinos would be happy about that!

Logically that bubble would expand exponentially until infinity was reached. QED. Then, every thing would die!

I don't think you can get to 30 in our village with all the wiggles in the road, plus cows sheep and ponies wandering around. talking of which I got a bucket full to put on the compost heap.

                      Well skipping the arithmetic. ..
The mean velocity of nitrogen molecules is about 1118 mph at stp.

So thats a factor of roughly 40…
Now temp^2 is proportional to speed so it wouls “impose” an equivalent tempertute of 273/sqrt (40) which comes out at about 42 K

                      The air would condense.

And it would be very dark because light exceeds the speed limit by several miles per hour.

But this whole subject is based on the premise of absolutely nothing moving faster than 30 mph

Fergie tractors are going to have a job getting up to that speed. Might need some nitro in the TVO. Still not sure why you need a minimum speed limit as high as 30, what's the rush? AH, I get it, you need to get home to put a final bid on that Adept before Neil wins it.

So time would speed up… and so you would still be going too quick… and so you would still get a ticket

So you are really conceiving a village universe with a speed of light equal to 30mph.

That has some big implications on other basic physical constants. For starters the permittivity and permeability of free space would be much bigger making the EM fields correspondingly more intense. Changing the basic physical constants by not very much has profound effects on the kind of universe you can make.

I got back home after a week in the USA where I attended a workshop at Tormach's head office in Wisconsin and as soon as I got my suitcases unpacked I went into the workshop and installed the upgrade to Path Pilot.

Was the trip worth it, in a word, yes. If our esteemed editor is willing I will write up an article on the workshop.

I also got a chance to see their new small mill, the 440 and it is every bit as good in terms of quality and capability as it's bigger brothers. When Tormach stet importing to Europe, other manufacturers will have to up their game to remain competitive.

I also enjoyed a visit to the EAA museum in Oshkosh which is only about 60/70 miles away, nice to see a Mosquito in flying order as well as a lot of famous home built aircraft and racing aircraft.

Well yesterday, on a point of order.

Drove over to Hereford, (142 miles) to The WaterWorks Museum, for the last steaming day of 2015, and did a bit of work in their workshop. (Will be open on Tuesdays , and in steam on Sundays next year)

Sorted out their, presumably Chinese, bench shears. It need a pivot making which, unlike the original, fitted without too much slop, and shimmed the moving blade until it contacted the static one. Then it even cut paper!

Then started cleaning up a Cutter Grinder that one of the other volunteers had acquired at an auction for them.

Never ever been cleaned since new by the looks of it, but the wheel has met the holder several times.

Even took time off to watch the celebration of the 120th Anniversary of the triple expansion steam engine and pumps. It is the oldest working triple expansion, certainly on land, in U K.

A fascinating range of exhibits with as many as possible operable, and running. Staffed entirely by volunteers, who make everyone welcome, even irregulars like me. (Am really a PITA since don't where anything is kept, so have to keep interrupting other folk's work to ask)

If you get the chance DO visit, some really old pumps and engines kept in running order, and exhibits that will interest children of all ages.

Now to pick up the threads of where I was in the workshop last week!

I had a problem installing Path Pilot on the controller of my Tormach. I contacted one of their Engineers in the USA and he had a solution sent to me within 30 mins. I had to change some BIOS settings to get it to run but it's all up to date and running. I shall go to bed a happy man tonight and tomorrow (Family Commitments permitting) I will give the conversational programming a whirl.

I lived near West Wycombe then and they used to do test flights along the A40 corridor. After it was finished it was sent to the US. A friend was pals with one of the fitters and was able to take a number of internal photos which I printed, we made a few quid out of that which boosted our apprentice wages.

Not Today but last week when I was attending the Tormach workshop I was heartened to find that one of the attendees was there to get familiarisation with the PCNC mills because the school he was working in as a teacher was buying several of them to teach the kids all about CNC machining.

Are there any British schools doing the same? Maybe the odd wealthy public school is but most of the mainstream schools are getting rid of their metalworking departments because of H & S worries.
