My Buffalo NAS works perfectly on my Mac network. I have a USB drive hanging off the buffalo and it does daily back ups automatically.

      .

      Tony,

Can you please advise … What OS version, and what model of Buffalo ?

      Thanks

      MichaelG.

I'd love to use the Cloud for additional backup, but where I live broadband is abysmal. I only went from 1Mb to around 3Mb in January. I still have photos syncing to dropbox after 8 weeks. We have nice new Infinity cabs 100yards away from me, but no indication whatever from BT when they will be active. They have been in place over 6 months.

As an example download of latest maps for tomtom satnav at moment and scheduled to take 3hours.

            Thanks Tony,

That seems to confirm what I hoped:

            • Just quick [and probably out-of-date] warning …
            • It appears that the Buffalo stations [of that vintage, at least] are better-suited to use with MS Windows.
            • … someone might confirm that the newer models work better with Mac;

            MichaelG.

            .

Edit: … Note: The bullet points are short extracts from my earlier post.

Not sure what you mean, my set up works absolutely fine with OS X

I've been working on the pump yoke fabrication for the cameron steam pump, about 90% done here. 110mm high for an idea of size.

                  Tony,

I was careful to point out that I was using a specific model of Buffalo, and using 10.6.8

[i.e Snow Leopard; which, I believe, is what Geoff is using]

… Can't really add to that.

Yes – I am using 10.6 Snow leopard and 10.10 Yosemite with no problem, desktop icon shortcut to the drive and remote access from outside my network. My Buffalo is at least 8 years old.

                      Thanks again, Tony

I can only assume that my specific model:

Buffalo Linkstation Quad [LS-Q1.0TL/R5] is the problem.

There has been number of firmware updates for Buffalo, have you applied them?

                          .

I updated the firmware immediately after firing the thing up … then had the difficulties mentioned above.

I don't think I've used the Buffalo for about twelve months.

After transferring several thousand 14MB files to it [for archive], I just turned it off.

… Thanks to your comments, I might try another firmware update before attempting to transfer the 2014 pics.

                          Cheers

For cracking walnuts, I prefer to use my little Record No.1 vice for a shatter free experience. Sadly the wife prohibits me from mounting the vice on the arm of my Lazy Boy chair.

                                          Neil,

May I suggest a small modification to your use of a nylon mallet for nut cracking and that is to get and clean a small baked bean tin to place the nut in before you hit it with the mallet, this will contain the shrapnel and stop the computer problems you are experiencing smiley

Small Mole gri[ps. You can adjust for each nut to break only the shell and not squash the nut entirely.
