Damn. I took out our airing cupboard when we did the new bathroom (condensing boiler, not hot tank).

Must get a bar of 19mm steel for the tailstock mod.

      Neil

      Hi Neil,

For a Seig minilathe you need 22 mm bar. Also note that M -Machine stock 22 x 3 mm steel tube which would save a lot of drilling.

        G'day.

Rescued 12,000+ emails from a friend's 5 business Windoze XP PC's after he migrated to newer machines with Windoze 7 and Office 2013. (Outlook 2013). Mickeysoft do not have a tool to do this.

In case anybody is 'upgrading' their old kit, I documented how to rescue all your old stuff, P.M. me for details.

          Thanks Mike,

          Saved me some bovver!

I found my old 'inversion' mountain bike forks today, with a distinct bend and bulge below the crown (ouch!)

They have long tubes, over 1 inch diameter sliding inside outer tubes, unlike most forks its just alloy tube in alloy tube and the fit is amazing, a gentle push fit all the way and no shake. Even allowing for grease, it must have been the most expensive part of the manufacture.

Danny, I may be doing this soon, although I use Thunderbird so it should just be a case of copying the user profile folder over. If I get stuck I'll shout, but I won't be without a machine at any point*.

          Neil

*not now I know the problem with the old one was a bank of defective memory.

Well so far I have had breakfast. But this is on the cards this week. One of those "not a Rush Job" which now suddenly has become one so I will have to sort some bits out and get cracking. Does anyone know what it is? There is a prize for the first person who guesses:

Some sort of bell, does it go at the top of one of those fairground sideshows where you hit something with a big hammer?

You are on the right track, it rings a Bell. The hammer and fairground bit don't apply.

(And that's your only guess as the prize is a selection of brand new Dormer bits)

Is it one of those bells that were on buses years ago? Pull the cord and it alerted the driver to stop.

I went to the Stirling Air Engine Rally at Kew Bridge Museum, lots of variants and the museum has been substantially refurbished.

Fair weather and a walk by the Thames to round it off, what I call a good day out.

I've been making Mike Cox's design table for my 6" x 4" bandsaw. I found the blade from the multi purpose saw that Aldi were selling some time ago worked very well as a slitting saw to cut the slit in the table. (6mm steel) I ran it at about 500 RPM which is much faster than I would use for an 110mm dia. HSS slitting saw. This was using an X3 milling machine.

                                  Les.

I think it's a door alarm whereby you unlock the catch and the spring loaded plubnger releases the door and sounds the bell with the side hammer. Only one ping though?

I am considering adding such an extension to my Boxford. John stephensons pictures (pg9) are good but not sure how long I dare make the extension.indecision I believe , from John's photo's and yours that the original barrel stays(just) within the tail stock housing. Otherwise surely it could rotate unless pinned / loctited to the original barrel? Or am I missing something in the photo's?thinking

Just finished last night adding the "anti rotation" grub screws to the existing barrel so one issue down smile

My original barrel doesn't come out any further than it did to start with.

it has a 40mm scale plus about 10mm at each end so it come out about 6omm.

                                          still lots in the body.

I'll do some measurements tomorrow for you.

For the avoidance of doubt if anyone gets it, or gets even close I will send you half a dozen or more brand new Dormer HSS Drill bits in useful sizes.

Spent a very productive 4 or 5 hours doing behind the scenes work on the homeworkshop.org.uk advert site.

For a while now we have been getting loads of adverts placed for software tools and services from mainly Bulgaria and Romania which have been getting by the filters. Normally they don't show as every advert is vetted to make sure it fits the site rules which I must admit are not that tight but it all takes time sorting these.

Hopefully it should reduce the time taken to keep the site running.

For anyone NOT familiar with the site it's a completely free advert site to buy and sell anything to do with home workshops, not just Model Engineers. It's completely free, no fees from either end and the sellers and buyers deals direct, no middle men. We make a small amount from the adverts on the site to help running costs it in no way covers all the expenses, it's run as a service and not a for profit venture.
