The spiral stair on that tower makes me think you could make a fantastic 3-d maze with such a printer! Pop in a ball bearing and quietly go insane! You could add different shaped chambers (say with different numbers of sides) to help you figure out where in the maze you are.

Whilst knocking off the day before Christmas and rushing to get all the breakdown jobs out of the door I noticed a tightness in the carriage at one point on the TOS lathe.

Further investigation shows that the pinion driving the rack is very worn, enough to allow a couple of teeth to start bending over. As this lathe is a daily drive and really earns it's crust today's job is to strip the carriage and make a new pinion shaft before it spits all the teeth off.

Should get in the workshop about dinner given prior tasks to do. Watch this space.

After a lot of hassle it is all covered in a blue tarp, should be water proof —-I hope

Well it would not be Christmas without Nuts (and a few bolts)

All the fixings for teh Galloway cart, gave me an excuse to try the Stevensons ER32 blocks that I found under the Xmas tree.

PS. Kwil I hope you manage to keep the rain out, suppose thats the price you pay for living in such a heavily wooded area. I spent part of xmas eve morning clearing a 50ft tree from my Neighbours garden, couple of degrees to the left and it would have hit her conservatory.

I made two phosphor bronze cotter pins to be able to mount the electric outboard on the kayak.

Its ex chemical plant stuff and boy was it hard. it looks good though.

One stepson brought his 'Parrot' around yesterday – an iphone controlled quadricopter. Very impressive – you get a 'parrot's eye view in HD on the phone.

I had to get my electric copter out and my other steplad asked for a go – so I ended up in the top of a small tree in a neighbouring garden!

While I was clearing up the leaves in the front garden the 3D printer was busy making a set of herringbone gears:

                                  herringbone_gear.jpg

A little judicious use of an Allen key in the central hexagon freed up the parts, and the gear set now turns nicely by hand.

This evening I've started my annual major oil it/clean it/sweep it session in the workshop. I'll continue tomorrow, as it looks like being unsuitable for gardening.

                                  Regards,

                                  Andrew

After 8 weeks I finally got into the workshop. last time I was in I had made a start on fitting my DRO to my milling machine, so I re started where I left off. Just got a small bracket to make tomorrow to fit the cross axis and then i can start to drill my 4" Durham rear hubs. That's after I have worked out how to use the circle thingy!

Happy new year and a happy modelling.
