Martin explained the different taper systems quite clearly.
The Morse Tapers, (To add confusion, the taper angle varies very slightly from size to size. But that need not bother you since you will be interested in the one that fits the machine that you choose, if MT is your choice )
The R8 is a taper with a greater larger angle so will be easier to release. Morse tapers tend to be a little harder to release, being known as "Self Gripping" tapers. But both types will need to be pulled into the machine quill with a drawbar. For many years the standard drawbar thread was 3/8 BSW, but now M12 is more prevalent. They are not interchangeable.
If by some means you find that you have both varieties, you will need two drawbars to suit the fitting that you have
Understandably, you have decided to buy from your local dealer, so check the specifications that they offer. Your choice may be made for you, if only one is available from Global.
Good luck, and many hours of enjoyable machining..
