Don't know if anyone else saw the American Epic music series on BBC – I've just watched it on my recorder. The final part was a series of live performances of Americana music recorded on what I think was the first real recording / record making machine. Whether the music is your cup of tea or not (I think it's fantastic!), the machine is quite amazing – a mechanical / electric hybrid based in part on a lathe. It seems this episode is no available on iPlayer but searching the machine yields some info.

Fascinating set of programmes. Lovely lacquered brass machinery – bit frightening when the strap holding the drive weight broke surprise
