My I be the first here  to congratulate Dougie!

This was his first time entering any competition, yet this past weekend at Harrogate, he achieved something with every one of his models!

His Civil War cannon was Highly Commended!

The  Anzani engine and Coastal each received a third

And best of all the stunning railway gun received the Barry Jordan trophy as best  in show!

      Fantastic!

I don’t know if anyone here spotted them, it took us a second look around to find them – and we knew they were there! It was a pity really as it was a bit out of the way (on the Friday – I assumed they were displayed in the same place each day).

Well done Dougie – any good at riveting?

      Julie

Must add my congratulation to Dougie. Fantastic models beautifully made. Dougie informed me that the War Museum were less than heplful during his research but I’ll bet they would be happy to display the models.
There must be someone close to Dougie with a three and a half guage loco of suitable period to create a fantastic photo shoot.
As for the rest of the show, brilliant.  Came home full of enthusiasm with an empty wallet and a rather heavy ‘man bag’ . (Circlip will know what I mean). Well done to all concerned.
            Chris.

It was indeed on the centre table, but unfortunately well inboard so a real close-up inspection proved difficult. Also, photography of this model was tricky due to its location and the fact that there was always people sitting directly behind it! Has anyone out there a decent uncluttered shot of this prize-winning model they can post for us?

Try Dougie’s own album Kelvin. He has some good shots there of the guns in his workshop.

Thanks to all, especially Julie, for the comments

It was a complete stunner when I won the Barry Jordan trophy, never in my wildest dreams did I expect an award like that.

The experience of meeting, and impressing, some of the modellers I have admired in the magazine and have  tried to emulate was an honor.

It was also  a pleasure talking to all the other modellers who came up to ask some questions, to all of you I say thanks for the interest

Once again thanks for the comments

I have been trying to upload some decent photos but keep getting an error message but I will persevere

Can I join in the admiration of the railway gun.  A really stunning model! Finish was brilliant

I also admired the Tomcat on the west yorks flying club stand. I’ve seen earlier jets flying and they are so  realistic it’s untrue.

Sadly seen a few scale crashes too!

Circlip , my dear sir –  a pleasure to put a face to the e mails on Saturday.

Didn’t spot anyone else- although there were quite a few “man bags” in evidence. Too busy on Sunday  “investing for my son’s future happiness” , absolutely nothing to do with his father’s short term gratification you understand?

SWMBO is starting to get suspicious of my motives had to take Grandad to back me up on Saturday.

                      Well roll on next year.

Hope you all had a successful trip

I saw the railway gun, and thought it a very interesting model.   It was away at the back of the table, and not well placed to see, but I spotted it for what it was (I have read about such guns in histories of the First and Second World wars)

I have to say that I thought the F-14 Tomcat fighter was better, but they were both magificent models.

                        Regards
                        Geoff
