      Hi All,

      Wonder if anybody is using a CFW100 1 h.p. 3 phase power inverter ?

Just bought one from Inverter Drive Supermarket to run a 1 h.p. 1450 rpm motor on my Dore-Westbury mill. The idea is to run the motor at 2/3 to 4/3 rated speed etc. to give a good speed variation on the basic 3 speed plus back-gear on the basic machine. I believe the speed variation will be possible using an accessory small potentiometer panel that I also bought.. Also interested in low-speed setting e.g. 15% of rated value.

I have downloaded the instruction manuals from IDS website but they are giving me a headache 8(

Any suggestions on practical setting and use of this scheme gratefully received.

p.s. Guy Fawkes was last week!

      TIA, Les

By way of a 'bump'.. ..I don't have a WEG, but the 'Quick Start Guide' pdf from their website seems pretty straightforward, page 8 shows how to set up a remote 'button' (electronic) potentiometer, but not a rotary (analogue) one – which do you have?

..did it come from IDS at the same time?

..I know that there are people on the forum who can do stuff like this in their sleep, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will respond..

Well it's all pretty unclear but it looks like if you want to use a standard rotary pot an accessory board is needed which can access the analogue control input. See the text on the bottom right of page 8. Or you can use a digital control using 3 push buttons, as shown on p8 also. Easy to make.

I found IDS very helpful and knowledgeable on queries about the stuff they sell so might be worth a call.

                Second that.

I stand to be corrected but when I looked at the WEG specs. with a view to purchasing I formed the view that the 100 series didn't lend itself very readily to pendant control, especally using a potentiometer for speed. That was in part due to IDS not providing a Quick Start Guide showing such details, whereas they do for the more expensive WEG inverters.

I found these illustrated guides invaluable for setting up the inverters that I purchased from IDS.

The manual's not helpful or conclusive, but the terminals available on this particular VFD look to be digital only – I see no way of connecting a simple analogue pot. Possibly some terminals are dual-purpose, except I couldn't find anything in the blurb.

There's a hint a pot control is available but I guess it's a box that replaces the button unit described in the Quick Start Guide. Some sort of analogue to digital converter and unlikely to be complicated but no technical description.

                  Sorry

                  Dave

Unfortunately, IDS don't seem to include one of their "quickstart guides" with this inverter. All I can say is that anyone thinking of getting one of their inverters is to only buy one that has the quickstart guide listed, not all do. I was very careful to study the manuals available before committing myself and would only recommend a model that included the quickstart guide unless you are an electrical engineer.

Thanks men for your informed responses to my query.

The major step forward was discovering the "QuickStart" guide which condensed the user manuals into a dozen pages with idiot-proof advice.

You have collectively reassured me that I can successfully implement my scheme. There's even a diagram shown for an on/off and speed up/down box.

Confidence is all with a project like this.

                      Best regards, Les Rix
