Hi Guys

What is the best way to fill a 3inch burrell of water before lighting?

As the Burrell does not have a filling point on the cylinder flange for the initial fill you will have to do what Plastow suggests and fill via one of the clack valves – disconect a pipe and use a bit of flexible hose & funnel to get the water in.

Hi Ryan,

I fill my loco through the blowdown valve, I'm guessing that you have a water supply other than a bottle! Makes it easy as you don't need to take any thing off & sure beats using the hand pump!

the only suggestion I would make is that you have tap at the engine end, before the flexible tubing you use to connect up with, why ? The first time you close the blowdown valve when the engine is fill & you don't you will find out!

On my old Plastow drawings it shows a filling plug on the cylinder on the opposite side to the valve chest ( not on the flange but on the bore centre line)so that's what I did on mine.
