Not normally superstitious, but will this be cancelled as running in 3s?

            I hope not

            Get me coat, ha,ha.

Gentlemen ! In the context of the workshop area at the Midland Expo 2022, what would you like to see or find interesting ? One suggestion has been the refurishment of older machine tools ! Please offer me your ideas and I will put them forward for consideration. I will be running a brierley drill grinder sharpening your blunt drills. Noel.

Lots of CNC please. Milling, turning, 3d printing, machine conversion.

If it is CNC then it would be nice to have a machine running at a decent speed with adaptive paths etc. generated by a CAM program Last time I looked at the SMEE guys using a CNC it was a bit like watching paint dry as they fiddled about manuallyentering g-code and put me right off. Not until I was given one that I found out it does not have to be like that.

Don't know if CNC4YOU will have a stand but maybe they could have a machine running?

Jason why don’t you take your mill along and show us all how it’s done, you could also have a nice display of the engines you have made using the cnc, 👍

You beat me to it Baz! But a combination of showing Fusion360 design for engine components; moving to machining them out by CNC; and/or printing for lost PLA casting; could be a theme for exhibits and talks.

I think you have all seen enough of mine in action in the various videos and I give enough time freely to the forum etc so will let someone else have a go, over to you gents

That was why I suggested CNC4YOU as they have their machines there anyway, would be nice if they could have one going either in the demo area or on their stand. Much like when JS used to run the ARC machines.

I think you are missing a great opportunity here Jason, the latest engine being machined, previous ones on show and of course the BOOK, with all the drawings inside plus of course the CD in the back with all the programs on, just ready to load into your machine at home and cut metal, you could also do metal packs for each engine, 😄😄😄

CNC4YOU have previously demonstrated their modular milling machine as I remember the ISO20 toolholder being used. Not much was being done though so not really a demo of the ability of a cnc machine.

Baz, I won't say it has not crossed my mind. Both the book of the "series 24" engines though that may have to run into a second volume at the rate I make 'em. As well as producing the main "castings" as CNC machined parts maybe with some machining like drilling, boring and tapping left to the buyer in much the same way they would with a casting. Maybe the option for those parts completely machined as well. ARC did look into it a few years back when JS was about. Might start a new thread on that subject.

Emgee. Yes it would really want to be a demo of the machine actually producing a part that most visitors could relate to be it a bed plate for a stationary engine, spoked loco wheel or such like. While the machine could be watched getting on with the machining someone to show on a screen how the part was modelled and how the CAM was done would all add to the interest

Maybe we could have a competition with one demonstrator making 2D drawings, wood patterns and casting against the 3D model, CAM and CNCsmiley
