Hi, I'm a newbie here. I have a Warco ZX5015 mill in a shared workshop. I came back from holiday to find it not working. Someone had a look and determined the forward/reverse switch had lost forward function after the power tripped. In trying to rewire this, the main switch blew.

The parts got ordered and I return from holiday ready to fit them. I open the housing with a plan to methodically swap over the 10 connections on the on/off switch. I look away for a moment, when someone comes to speak to me. Some connectors pop off on their own, so now I'm left wondering which wires should go to which contact on the JD3 switch.

I'm therefore trying to trace back and get some idea of how the contacts on the JD3 relate to the wiring in the distribution board in the back of the machine. Warco have just sent me the not terribly useful in this situation wiring diagram that is in the manual.

Does anyone have the same machine and could offer some assistance?

      Thanks

Hi Rachel, is this the machine you are talking about.

              Rachel,,

That looks more akin to a Warco VMC/Chester 626 mill. I would approach either of those suppliers for a suitable wiring diagram if you have no response on here. I have a VMC mill but it's powered by 3-phase motor and vfd, so my switching is different again.

The American Grizzly version has a wiring diagram which might give you some clues, just watch out for voltage variations.

Hi Rachel, I agree with John that it looks like their VMC Turret mill, but they don't seem to do the 5015 now, but is listed in their older catalogues as a 3MT machine, but the ZX is not quoted in the listings. Maybe the ZX was on their much earlier models. I'm sorry but I don't have anymore information. VMC Turret Mill

                Regards Nick.

                  Thank you John and Nick,

I have seen the Grizzly wiring and it's the closest I've found but no cigar unfortunately.

It is certainly an old machine.

I will go in tomorrow with all my bravery and wire it the way I think it should go and hope for the best.

                  Thanks all for your help.

                    Rachel,

I would caution that approach, unless you have a VERY good idea about what you are doing. I would be inclined to employ a qualified electrician – with machine experience – to do it. At least then if something blows up, you'll have someone else to bear the costs! It shouldn't take a competent electrician more than an hour to do. Money well spent in my view.

                    John

I'm a bit further forward. I haven't been able to get into the room today, it's been in use all day. I have had a look at the Chester 626.

This is looks just like what I've got, for the contacts I am sure of, except I have 10 contacts not 8.chester 626.jpg

So I have 2 wires left over, I am thinking the difference is the one above is single phase and mine is 3 phase.

Below is the distribution block on the back of the machine and a shoddy drawing of how these are labelled.

                      distribition block rear.jpg

                      distribution block labelling.jpg

I think the wires not shown on the 8 contact switch would be those marked W and W21. Am I remotely barking up the right tree?

                      Thanks

If it's 3phase then I would expect U,V,W to be the 3 phases ? Noel.

                            Ta-Da.

I had a few days off, went and put my big girl pants on, and with 90% knowledge and 10% hey I'm sure it'll be ok, got it all back together.

I adapted the Chester 626 diagram I found on here.

                            Thanks all for your help.
