Hi all, does anyone have the numbers for the headstock bearings for a WM250 as mine could do with replacing.
        Thanks in advance, Mark P.

Quite possibly the same as the 280 as they both have MT4 spindle but not certain.

The 280 bearings are 3200sx which I think I had to look up a conversion code for, replaced mine with FAG ones. 75mm OD, 45mm ID and about 21mm wide

Just had a look in teh manual, lists the spindle bearings as 2007109E which according to this table is a 32009 bearing. So you should have the size of yours in the manual

              Jason,

I couldn't stop laughing at the company's address in the link you gave.

By the way, bearing number 2007109E is a standard Russian and Chinese bearing number. I know that it says old number in the table link above, but there is nothing old about it. It is the correct number and 32009 is the correct translation.

Thank you Jason,if the dog had not eaten my manual I could have a look! Am planning on using SKF bearings. Don’t want to strip the old ones out until I have replacements.

Best to wait for another owner just to confirm the 250 uses the same size, hopefully one of them still has a manual

If it is a genuine SKF from a bearing dealer of repute, then don't worry about the X/Q at the end. It is just a 'mine is better than yours' exercise between all the big brands. If you are not sure if it is genuine (not easy as there are plenty of great fakes which work just as good) then consider Japanese brands such as NSK, Nachi, Koyo if you want brand security.

Or look at original maker TIMKEN which is made nowadays in Turkey or China

Don't know which sizes they make there, but Koyo has a production plant in Barnsley !

Very interesting thread, I have the 250 -vf version, nothing wrong with the bearings yet and I'm hoping long while before that occurs , are Warco not able to help regarding bearing supply or aren't they as helpful as Ketan?

Mike I would think that Warco will supply the same far eastern bearings that come as original equipment.

Any chance you could look in your manual to confirm if the 250 & 280 do share the same size bearings?

Alan, I changed mine as the one nearest the chuck was getting quite warm and when it became notchy I thought it best to change, was quite dry.

Alan I’m changing mine for the same reason as Jason. Mike I decided not to buy from Warco because I assumed that I would get the same as I had.

Mike, I wouldnt blame Warco for that. The only reason I commented is becasue my previous main business used to be import and export of bearings, and I saw a Russian/Chinese bearing number in the thread from Jason. In any case, it looks Mark can figure out what he will need from Garry's post.

I am thinking of fitting a DRO to my WM16 mill but a bit confused as to the one to fit. When I spoke to Warco they said they fitted a 500mm and 150mm to the X,Y axis. Is it because 500mm is the maximum on the GS30 range? Here on the forum I read of people fitting a 600mm to the x axis. Has anyone fitted the GS10 scale that goes upto 1500mm max. I have not seen a factory fitted scale so what is the best position to fit the x scale "front" or "rear" ? and would I have to remove the table to drill if mounted in the rear positon. Any help or advice would be appreciated

I prefer front mounting for the X axis as long as I can use the slide lock.

Wind the table all the way to the right and mark with felt tip pen at the left making sure the mark is on the top and bottom of the table, cross slide. Wind slide all the way to the left and measure the distance between the two marks. This is the longest travel the slide can do and will be the minimum length of slide + about an inch for the end mountings. the Warco x travel is 480mm so you need a minimum of a 500mm slide.warco only go up to 500mm but arc euro trade do a 600mm one. The Warco Y axis travel is 175mm so I would use the 200mm slide.

                                                  I————————I

                                                  I

Measure between the two marks above.

I have front mounted my X axis DRO & the Y axis on the left hand side.. Arc Euro type with remote read out. My WM16 has the long table -700mm so I fitted the 20"/600mm slide ( X ) & the 8"/200mm ( Y ) There are pics in my album of fitting. I did not remove the table for fitting. just the left hand wheel & end casting for easier access, drilling the cast was not to difficult as didn't come across any hard spots.

Warco offer a two or three axis readout display (for the same price). does anyone know if the built in z axis slide will work with these displays or is it a waste of time to fit an additional z axis readout and just use the built in one?
