      Hi all

Just got a Warco super major vario mill (new) . Manged to get it onto the stand.

      Just two questions –

How on earth does the threading facilty work, have got to point of selecting the threading via console and spindle starts when quill is lowered but doesnt stop until quill returned to stop.

So if I where to use a tap once it had started tapping I cannot stop the spindle, without it appears returning quill back which of course you cant do whilst its still tapping ?

Having got machine on the stand and not tightened down as per warco suggestion so as not to warp base, I commenced to clean up the slides and dovetail above the head unit, then re oiled and raised head fully up and cleaned lower section and oiled, on dropping head back down either by power or via hand wheel it gets two thirds down then stops fractionally and then jumps down as though taking out the play out of lead screw does this nearly to end of travel.

I have tightened the gib and tried loosening it but it still judders down in that bottom section albeit not so much with gib really tight.

Sorry for the length of post but I am sure it should be smotth both up and down, it concerns me that isnt very precision and should it drop when bringing tool or drill close it could slam into work piece,

Any suggestions or is it a possible return it to warco – I shall be ringing them to see what can be down

      Thanks

Two possibilities for the tapping function. Are there any buttons on the end of the quill levers, some mills use these to quickly reverse the spindle for tapping so you can keep your hand on the lever rather than reach to the switch panel.Secondly there is a power downfeed option on some models of this mill that is activated by moving the levers sideways, tapping may work in the same way.

Many thanks – for the reply spent some time on internet and grizzly have similar feature

move head to above hole, postion tap above and set depth via the depth stop on the front of head and then use manual feed to lower whereupon the spindle strats up manual feed to start tapping then as it reaches the depth stop, the spindle auto reverse's and tap is withdrawn

thank goodness for similar m/c PDF's
