      Hello Brian, How are you?

Since my post I had a look through the 'manual'. I had forgotten how bad it is.

It does not detail where the fill and drain plugs are, or how much oil is required.

Before I do anything I will post some pictures to confirm what I think the plugs.

I will speak to Warco before I order the new oil from them, but in the meantime, do you know how much oil I will need?

      Ta.

I used Warco headstock oil. It's nothing special but I had some form my time with a 280V. Fill plug for the gearbox is on the RHS level with the lead screw . Fill the Headstock via the big plate screwed to the top . I used a 4l container of oil .

        Brian

Hi, I noted a while ago somone had drafted a procedure for fixing the oil leaks for the GH600, i had a few small leaks which i wasnt to bothered about, but after a period of no use over winter i opened the cabinet drawer to find it full of oil and no oil showing on the leadscrew gearbox, i would dearly like to haave a copy of this procedure so i can try and fix the leaks on the GH600, thanks in advance.

            Hello Anthony.

I've only just seen your post.

Do you want the documentation I put together for the leak on the front apron? If so, PM me and I'll send it to you.

            Cheers

              Hi Ian

How did you get on with the machine castors are you still using the them or did you find there was to much movement. Thanks George

A bit of an update in the casters: The lathe is now in the final position with feet wound down.

I have adjusted the feet to remove twist using a cheap Engineer's level.

If I push the lathe backward, there is a very slight wobble on the rubber feet – probably to be expected.

It is very little movement, and the lathe appears to return to no twist when I stop pushing.

I will evaluate over the coming weeks if this has a noticeable effect in use.

                Thanks in advance George

There is a possibility that a sheet metal cabinet will less strong than the lathe bed and resist removing twist from the bed.

It might be better to site the cabinet and then to concentrate work on removing twist around the Tailstock feet.

I tried removing twist by jacking the bench on which my BL12-24 (BH 600 lookalike ) lathe sat, and found that it made no difference, other than raising the benchwork at one end.

Hi George, Sorry – Only just read your post and seen your PM. PM response sent with more detail, but in brief, I am still using the casters and have no intention of removing them.
