Is there any way of adjusting play from the longitudinal leadscrew. There is about 0.016" slack which means that when climb milling, the cutter has a tendency to 'grab' the table towards the cutter. I have tried putting shims behind the collars but this seems to reduce play in some areas, but tight in others.

        Any suggestions?

I have a Warco Economy Mill/Drill. Being still in "learning" mode for milling I don't take huge cuts at the best of times, and I do have backlash in both the X and Y direction. It's not as much as 16 thou, I think, but don't know quite what it is, I just work round it.

Although I very rarely do climb milling I have done some – a very limited amount – with no problems on mild steel, BUT, I have only ever done so with light – just a few thou – 'finishing' cuts, I would never climb mill with any more than a few thou and see no reason why I should want to do so, conventional milling works just fine!
