Just had one of these delivered today, turns out the thing uses mini USB connectors, rather than the more usual slide in connection to fingers etched onto the PCB of the scale readout head.

I’m pretty certain the electonics will be compatible, if so, does the connector pinout map 121 between the types?

          Hi Steve,
I think these readouts from Warco are designed for the scales using 21 bit protocol. In the states these scales are sold under the badge igage.
The original Chinese scales and calipers use a 2 * 24 bit protocol so they will not work with these display units.
There is some information on the 21 bit protocol Here

          Les.

Thanks Les. That’s a pity as I was hoping to move the display around, looks like it’s committed to the Mill and the Warco scales.

              Hi Steve,
If you play around with electronics there is a design for a remote display for Chinese scales Here
I have built several displays based on this design and they work well. Another option is to build a DRO350 or DRO550. There is a supplier of PCB’s for the DRO350 in the UK. The DRO550 has to be bought from “Shumatech” in the US and they are only available from time to time when a batch is manufactured.

              Les.

Thanks Les. I have a display unit and compatible scale, but was hoping to connect up my other scales too, which appear to be the 2*24 bit chinese type you mention. I had hoped it was just plug compatibility but clearly not.

                  Ah well.

This is not a simple subject.

There is a lot of converting and adaptor work.
It seems to be a case of products being made as incompatibly as possible, to make cheap DROs as difficult as possible.
