I have a Warco 500mm digital readout on my miller.
The Y axis has stopped working, number on display not changing when the axis is moved. Swapped input to the readout and the readout is working fine.
Have taken the slide to bits and cant see any damage or swarf so assume that the LED and sensors are failing.
Before I pay Warco £115 to but a replacement anyone else had problems and are there any fixes?
BTW it started to fail intermittently so would work on part of the track and then stop incrementing the reading and then start again. Luckily I wasn't doing anything precision at the time…

I suggest you enquire to Warco. I doubt it needs a 500mm scale for the y axis?

Have you checked for broken wire / continuity in the lead..?

tested for broken wires and bad joints but cant find any problems, it seems to work over certain parts of the range so begining to think the glass slide is damaged.
New one from Warco all now working again..

Remove an end plate, slide the head out and use a tissue and alcohol to clean the glass.

Did you check that the led lights?

Usually there is also a glass scale on the read head that produces a interference pattern with the main glass scale and I've have one of these becoming detached. I'm not sure you'll see the LED's light up as they are normally Infra-red but not sure what modern scales may use.

did take the head out and cleaned everything. Couldnt check the LED as I think there are IR. Might try again using a IR receiver and a scope.
Would still like to repair it.

I will have another look at it. Although I have brought a new one I would like to fix the old one or understand whats broken.

Digital camera sensors will respond to IR. I've used a video camera before to check that an IR remote control was actually emitting. Phone camera may well work for this – check first against a known working device (TV remote ?).
