warco 220 measurements

hi all ive checked the cross slide and the compound the dials are in metric and imperial however I have clocked with a dial gauge and notice neither are very accurate in fact miles out is there anyway to adjust to set them or are they only ment to be a guide

Hi Kevin,

FWIW, They should be accurate enough to start with; try a digital gauge on your slides to compare & see how far out they are. I use a digital tyre gauge ( earth magnet glued on the probe end ) on my X slide for final cuts on the 'Y' axis & the same or a dial gauge for the saddle travel 'X' axis. Looking on the 'Lathes.co.uk' site I read they were made in Bulgaria ( under the 'Mashtroy name ) & some were supplied with metric & imperial scales whilst some only had one or the other scales, if they are out it might be worth asking the site if they have any spares for this lathe if yours is an old version as I don't see in the Warco catalogue any 220's ( or they might call it the 'mini lathe' &nbsp also try Warcos as they might have spare dials kicking about in their spares dept…?

Do you have any excessive play on your X slide lead screw nut…?

Hi Kevin,

I find the cross-slide remarkably accurate for the quality of lathe once backlash is taken up. There is no provision for adjustment of the nuts, however the double nut within the handle allows play to be removed between screw and slide.

Don't forget the cross-slide indicates the radial increment, so 4mm will advance the slide 2mm and remove 4mm from the diameter. The top-slide is direct as would be expected.

Remember the lathe is metric, so inch measurements on the dials are an approximation.
