yes he is indeed talented, I'm very pleased with the work. I have had to butt out due to frustrating him with my interference! I will ask him about the drawings though. Thanks for comments

Just a thought. If anyone making a model gun is worried about the legal implications, could they not make the barrel from what is commonly known as "monkey metal". Surely this would make it un-useable?

Don't worry, he's already taken care of all of that stuff.

          Focus on the lovely workmanship

I have to step in here.
          , sorry.

The workmanship is obviously first class and this is an interesting thread, but I am afraid I need to know more about 'all that stuff' of I will have to ask our legal person to look closely at this. Will the builder or the customer please email me directly with the details, wth a view to reassuring me that this is not a working firearm and therefore suitable for this forum.

Diane you may want to look at Bobs earlier thread and the photos in his album. As Bob makes FULL SIZE replicas for a living for museums etc I'm sure he knows all the legal implications.

              Hi all.

              1. It is made of a metal that cannot be used to fire a projectile without exploding.
              2. At 1/13 scale of 8″ there is no such ammunition for it.
              3. It has no striking mech.
              4. It has all the lethal barrel properties as a Britains version.
              5. It cannot fire, nor be made to fire anymore than a length of BSP piping can – even if therews such ammunition . But there is not.
              Its a model

Bob, as the person who started this hare running, I'm sorry for doing so. Comes from being a retired lawyer all my working life (retired now, so recovering slowly) and the holder of a firearm certificate, I suppose.

Please don't stop. I'm sure most folk, like me, want to see more of the skilled workmanship which is going into this model.

You can't blame people for being careful when it comes to firearms , after all inner city naval cannon shootings are rife at the moment.

I believe when people started to by working tanks, particularly T34s, from ex-Iron Curtain Countries, the question was asked in Parliament on whether the main gun could be used. The reply was that they had not been de-activated. As far as I know that nothing further was done or said and that no owner has fired a gun.

Unlike your howitzer the ammunition must be available somewhere on the black market out there. I guess that one round could cost more than the tank did.

I seem to remember that a few years ago there where more tanks in private hands in the UK than in the army. The local military vehicles club have a 25 pounder that they have rigged to fire, using a shotgun shell, it creates plenty of smoke, and quite a good "BANG". At the wings over Wanaka there is pleanty of action with machine guns, British, German, and American, all blank ammo, along with air blasts of petrol vapour, that rattle windows. A lot of help from Weta Workshop, film special effects specialists. Our fire arms laws are proberbly more lax than the UK, and Austrailia too I think. Ian S C

They were going to get 42 grenadier guards to shout 'bang', but they thought that might frighten the horses, so instead they will each have a little yellow flag with 'bang' in red letters to wave gently. As it's a special occassion they will be permitted to use the flags with 'bang' in capital letters.

Keep it up it is a fascinating project, guns of all types are of interest to me they are engineering but with a twist the skills of a gunsmith I was lucky enough to build a rifles under his supervision (all legal and above board) and I learnt a whole new range of fitting skills using a smoky flame. amongst others
