        Hi Guys

i was looking at replacing speed control on my mashtroy ( warco 220) lathe with a VFD, any one done so and if so how did you go about it?

        Regards

        Dave

Depends what the existing motor is. Apparently the earlier ones came with single phase while the later ones came with a variable speed motor, I don't know what sort, but quite likely some sort of DC motor or a universal type of AC motor. To use a VFD you would need a three phase motor, so it very probably would require you to buy both the motor and the VFD. So unless the existing motor is a three phase one, it would be quite an expensive exercise, although still probably worthwhile.

As mentioned, the motor would require changing for a 3 phase one, and you would have to do some careful measuring to find out whether there is room to fit one.
