      Good morning chaps

This question is really directed at any one who has built this engine. I am slowly but surely working through the construction of my Vega Twin. When I first got the plans I noticed that there was described on the plan "Mounting Plates". measuring 3" x 1.5" x 1/8 with two 2 BA tapped holes 0,375 apart in the centre. There is also shown two cut outs either end of the plate. For the life of me I cannot see what this plate is used for or where it goes. It is probably staring me in the face but any help from Vega builders would be appreciated.

I have a feeling it is used to mount the cylinder heads (via valve holes) for one or more machining operations.

I can see there are a few pictures in your albums but what about some regular updates and photos? I know myself and many others would love to watch this coming together.

                Hi Buffer,

You know it genuinely never occurred to me to do this ! I am attempting the carbs at the moment and if it would be of interest I would be pleased to post a few photos. This build has been (almost) a death by a thousand cuts. but I would be pleased to offer any advice on the build to anyone undertaking this project.

Honestly it would be brilliant to see this being built. There is another member building a twin victoria with nearly 18000 views! I'm sure people would love it.

I struggled with making the exhausts so trip to B&Q and a visit to the plumbing section got me a couple of these 22mm copper end caps. I took each cap and drilled the 1/4" holes either end. I then cut one cap down to give me the required length as per the plan. I joined the halves together using a nut and bolt and silver solder together. Not as elegant perhaps but maybe a wee pollish will help.20210620_095503.jpg

Engine is looking good, a bit of black BBQ paint is another option for exhausts and silencers.

                          Hi Jason,

Thought about that, but on the assumption that it will run !!!!! I was concerned that the paint would peel off due to heat,

However I was thinking about using a car / motorcycle exhaust paint which I assume would be more resistant,

If anyone has other alternative ideas ?

Nickel or chrome plating may look good but I would just use some black heat resistant paint.

The BBQ paint is heat resistant. I use a stove paint and have not had problems with that coming off exhausts

                                Good morning everyone,

                                Well, here I go again.

This I hope is the last query I have with regards the plan ? The plan shows each carb body having two 8ba holes drilled, again I cannot see what they are for, and like the mountings plates previous any advice would be gratefully received. I will post pics soon of the carb build if of interest. Thank you all in anticipation.

Got the stove paint Jason, thanks,

One hole takes the slow running screw and adjusts how much of the air bleed hole is uncovered.

The other takes the screw and washer to retain the barrel

Ah, I see Jason, you know I looked at this and had brain fog, it's an age thing.

                                    Many thanks
