When I ran out of 'Lazer Bond' I ordered a cheap look-alike of eBay because I couldn't find it in the Range any more.

I used the cheap version earlier today. It took ages to cure, despite the UV LED looking just as powerful (LB was almost instantaneous). One joint is rubbery (probably not fully cured), another one was brittle.

So, these are definitely not all created equal, and I stand by my positive mini-review of Lazer Bond and now am looking out for a new source of it!

Since "genuine" Lazer Bond and its imitators all seem to be called "Lazer Bond" how do you tell the difference?

              Not easy!

This is the 'official packaging', but ones with similar looking dispensers may or may not work well..

Interesting..being sold on Amazon with that picture but 'without box' in the details.

I suspect 'Lazer Bond' is no longer distributed by JML, but the product is still being sold in the USA (nearly £30 before import taxes!)

The 'fakers' may or may not be the same but of course no guarantees on the composition/quality…

I suppose the obvious [but not inexpensive] answer would be to purchase direct from JML

… when/if it is stocked again.

Hi Neil, as mentioned on another thread I have had success with Dymax UV cure adhesives but they are very expensive industrial quality stuff. If you talk to your dentist he may tell you where he buys his, as used for non metallic fillings in teeth. Very good stuff if you can get it.

The distributor I use for Dymax products is adamant that success is only guaranteed if you use their UV cure lights – they say the frequency and intensity are critical to good cure. They also say that the Dymax products have short shelf life, and after the expiry date on the cans they must not be used for anything critical as they may not bond well.

I have had iffy results from the hardware store stuff. Could be the LED in the pen not being just right, could be shelf life issues. It is not cheap in hardware stores here. I paid $14.99 (about 10 UK pounds I think) for a 15 mL pen last time I bought some to experiment with. Have not bought it since.

Some of the eBay ads seem to do the same thing. While not stating "without box", if you read between the lines ….

For cheaper stuff search for surfboard repair UV cure.

I keep getting an ad via You Tube for a product called "Bondic". Developed by a UK dentist apparently. Sounds like the same sort of stuff. As always, the claims for these things are very impressive, but it could be worth a punt in lieu of anything else.

You can't really tell from the picture. A valid reason for importing 'without box' is to reduce shipping costs. The photo is of clunky DIY store type consumer packaging, more presentational than efficient and unlikely to be how LazerBond is packaged for industry and sold in bulk at much lower cost.

Or maybe it's a dodgy imitation. Only way to find out is to buy some.

Just purchased a quantity of Bondic, having read about it for the first time, looks like just the thing for rebuilding broken tabs on my motorcycle plastic covering items. Now I see it comes from the states so expect import charges on top of £60.19 purchase price.

Mine arrived today. It looks exactly like the picture that Neil posted above and says "Adhesive Made in USA" It also carries the obligatory California Health Warning.

It was shipped in a padded envelope and the red compartment at the bottom had, apparently, taken a hit and was crushed. The corner of the package had also become unsealed in that area. (There were signs on the padded envelope that it might have taken a (very local) hit from a sharp corner).

The tool was leaking. That didn't appear to be related to the aforementioned package damage. Unless I can easily do something about it, I'll probably just dump the whole kit & caboodle – leaking smelly/toxic chemicals are more trouble than they're worth. My fingers stink as it is.

The red compartment was empty. Is it supposed to be?

Except that JB Weld is a two part epoxy not a UV curing adhesive. It is also very opaque, not transparent which may be a consideration.

Another possible source is the adhesive used for attaching rear vision mirrors to the inside of car windscreens. Widely available from car parts and hardware stores and obviously very durable as it has to withstand extremes of temperature ( and humidity ) as well as bumps and mirror adjustments. It comes in small quantities but is relatively expensive.
