(urgent )Help Hobbymat md 65

Hi I've just bought my first lathe, A hobbymat md65, used it for the first time and found that when I tightened the tool in the tool post the tool post was lifting? Looked and there is a nasty crack in the comound can anyone please tell me where I can it replaced or can I use one off another type of lathe? All suggestions would be great fully appreciated.

Scrol down to this page to Hobbymat, and replacements are available, seems the crack is quite common.

There have been a few on ebay as it seems quite a few of these lathes have been stripped down. Maybe a wanted ad on here and on some other sites will reveal a spare one.

all the MD65 have the same problem….so buy a good interchangeable tool post and put the offending part in the bin…..mine broke in 1982 and the good tool post work perfectly since !!!

Sorry to learn of your problem Barry but pleased to see the forum have been able to provide a solution. As the lathe is new to you, you may find my pages on using one for making Stuart V10 and H10 engines interesting. Not saying you should be considering making one, or the other, but the pages will give you a good idea just what it can achieve beyond just conventional turning. As you will see, the process was backed using only a very small drilling machine, no milling machine. The pages are here- **LINK**

I have not experienced the problem you have had but almost as soon as I purchased the lathe I made (as you will see in the above) a four way tool post.

Having a Myford S7 my Hobbymat rearly gets used, for which I should be admonished, it's a fine little lathe.
